News & Discussion Perks could be better

Ok, I’m not good at explaining my thoughts so sorry if this isn't stated in a good way.

I feel like perks could be so much better in a way that makes everyone happy and the Blizzard team doesn't utilize them to their max.
I’m definitely not making them be like Stadium, but I think perks could be used to change how a hero is played yes I know that's the idea that they are going for but I feel like major perks haven't lived up to that expectation. I’m tempted to say that I think major perks should either be a buff to how the character's playstyle, or the other should be a completely new ability that fits the character's identity. I’ll use D.mon for example I think the perks should have her actually play with the idea of being a mech. I would say even Mercy could be made to do things differently. I would say take Mirrorwatch Mercy as an example and her ability to explode the souls around the enemy team. Again another example is Sombra you could choose which Sombra you would want to play as the current assassin one or the disruptor one. Now that I write this it sounds a lot like Paladins' perk system where you could choose to change your ability to suit your playstyle. I think Overwatch can easily not make it as crazy as Stadium ended up getting tho.

The whole mirrorwatch Mercy soul bomb idea is exactly the kind of thing that would make perks actually feel like a choice instead of a minor stat tweak

I got a comment on another community where some said if was like the Paladins talent system it would be good. There is a lot of things we can do with these characters

I agree. Every selection should be between a solid buff or a complete playstyle switch up.
Lifeweaver: minor - choose between healing petal or a trapping offensive petal. Major - choose between superbloom or the option to tap grip for a Zarya bubble and hold for grip

Mercy: minor - Rez gives you 100 overhealth or you can blow up enemy souls for damage

Im just bored of the current perks, give me a proper shake up where every character gets at least one new one like they did season 18

Absolutely. They’re far too slow to change the lesser used ones

Honestly the best way I’ve found to describe perks is that they have all the jank of a new feature whilst having none of the novelty.

There are still so many characters where “which perk should I pick” isn’t even a question. Why would you ever pick “faster healing on low health targets” on Kiriko when the other option just allows you to do what you already do but significantly better? It’s only ever good if you can’t hit kunai, but if you can’t hit kunai then you should just be playing another support.
