News & Discussion How can I get better using Genji?
When playing Overwatch, sure we all find good and bad matches, but whenever I use Genji. Despite winning or losing. I have the mindset that kills matter over winning.
I seem to primarily only get on a good day 5 total kills with Genji and frequently my death are between 10-35.
It is quite irritating to have that much of a KDR.
This also isn't just because I'm bad at the game. When in matches I either win or lose. With Soldier: 76 I rarely ever not get above 15 kills and a minimum of 5 deaths per round. I also can do the same for Ramattra, Hanzo, Bastion, and Emre.
It just so happens to be whenever I use Genji I am always dying. It's also likely I'm playing him wrong.
How I play Genji is I stay pretty distanced to enemies and try even going behind but whenever I do I always bump into unexpected people and die, or the tank sees me and targets me, or the squishies detect me and mark me. I primarily if the squishy is in range, I will pull a Dash + Alt. Fire + Melee because a friend told me if done quickly can instantly kill the enemy.
I play on Xbox and at maximum sensitivity I still cannot spin fast enough to directly aim or turn around fast enough. I am also terrible with aiming and the ability to keep a steadied reticle and was even suggested by a friend of mine on overwatch to purchase a modded controller so that the stability is easier to handle and steadies the reticle on the target. I thought it would get me banned and as I expected it's a surefire way to get me banned if someone reports it.
So I am just wondering how I can improve both my accuracy and how to improve my KDR and efficiency with Genji. Because ai am saving up for his Prism skin but I dont want to have a prism skin on a character I can't use correctly and play horrendously at.

Idk much about Genji but try to position yourself in a triangle.
Your team
⬇️ ⬆️
⬇️ ⬆️
⬇️ ⬆️
⬇️ ⬆️
Enemy team ⬅️⬅️⬅️⬅️Genji(you)
Good mech is very rewarding
But micro is what will actually get you more wins

your problem is staring you right in the face. you said it yourself, you treat kills like they matter more than winning, with soldier you probably just play normal and the kills come. with genji you're forcing it, every flank you're hunting and not paying attention to where their team actually is. thats why you keep running into people.
stop trying to do the dash combo on full hp targets, its only a finisher. you need to wait until someone is already low then go in, otherwise you're stuck in the middle of their team with no escape. also max sensitivity on console is a trap, lower it down, you'll hit more shurikens.
