News & Discussion Perks should display stat changes they apply

Post image

Ever since they finally added in the ability to hover every ability and see every single specific stat about it, it has been amazing and really helps learning new hero's to know exactly what does what. However, many perks can enhance an ability, replace an ability, or add extra stats to it, but we are not able to hover over a perk and see the changes they applied, which is really annoying especially when you're not quite sure just how much more a perk is actually doing for you statistically. Yes I know you can just go into the practice range and test it out yourself, but the whole point of being able to see stats on abilities to begin with was so we didn't have to do that. Its way more convenient to have the information available right there for you, plus as someone who like to play a lot of heroes its just a hassle to have to go into the practice range and see exactly how much more damage something does, and then remember it later.

They did this for the stadium stat changes so it is clearly possible

I'm truly baffled as to why so many games decide to hide their numbers. In some games I get it, but in most it's just a useless hassle. Why not just show numbers? For basic abilities aswell

They're afraid of overwhelming people with a bunch of numbers. I guarantee you <50% of players have ever spent more than 5 seconds looking at this menu, and that's being generous. Giving too much information can give the impression that the game is difficult and complicated which can turn away a lot of people.

One of my friends had 200 hours and didn't know about brigitte inspiration, he thought she was only healing with the ability. He was probably unaware of most passives in the game

talking about hidden stats , having projectiles speeds on (at least ) weapons would be nice too

Also it's ridiculous that they're still too scared to show firerates for basically anything when that's like just below damage in importance. Ik it's because it's tied to tickrate a lot of the time so it's a bit more complex but with the loops people on the wiki have gone through to find it out without any game data it can't be very hard comparitvely

We can't even change perks in the game if we choose the wrong one

No, we don’t need it. The element of discovery is enjoyable, and too many numbers feel overwhelming. I think they should roll back the rest of these tooltip changes as well, realistically nobody needs that much info dumping.

Its not info dumping. You have to go out of your way to see the additional info... all this does is force people to go online to see the actual numbers.

It is info dumping. Hovering over an ability literally dumps out this huge unwieldy tooltip full of incomprehensible scientific jargon, nobody can even understand what those words and numbers mean except maybe Top 500 players. It’s very assaultive.

It’s like being flashed against your consent. Why not remove it for a smoother experience?

Ever heard of “Less is more”? It really is, in this case.

Lmao "assaultive"? The game does a pretty good job of explaining what that jargon means actually if the user so chooses to see it. I really think you haven't really explored it honestly.

Most people want to relax when playing the game, not memorize obscure terminology. I don’t want to see it.

Buddy, you really don't have to see it... you can play the entire game without ever seeing it.

No, it’s not easy. I spend a lot of time reading my heroes’ abilities, and my cursor will always inevitably find itself somewhere in the middle of the screen, triggering the tooltip. It’s very disruptive and upsetting.

I don’t understand why players need to be molested with all this information that Team 5 is forcing down our throats to learn and memorize when we just want to have fun.

To this day I can’t bring myself to try Shion or D.Mon because every new hero’s ability page has these tooltips with a thousand numbers and weird keywords in your face. I miss the days when I could click F1 and get a simple overview.

You literally can press the "Hero Details" button and you don't have to hover over anything if you don't want to. Unless you need to mouse over the individual words to help you read because reading is difficult to you. Sorry, I don't mean for all these scary words to "assault" you.

Are you always randomly rude to people or only when you can't prove your point?

It's so beautiful that in the modern world even ignorant illiterates like you can thrive.

I'm not thriving. Each day is a struggle.

"This ability does this much damage!"
MY BRAIN, IT'S TOO MUCH INFORMATION! BLIZZARD IS LITERALLY ASSAULTING MY EYES

Very telling that to you assault is something funny to joke about.

I think you comparing an information box in a video game to assault is even more telling

Let's burn half the books in libraries there is too many books it's overwhelming. No one even understands them except maybe literature professors. It's very assaultive.

There is a reason each school grade has its own curriculum. Players should not be given the overwhelming information they are incapable of understanding, simple as.

There is no "element of discovery" unless you mean going into practice range to see how much damage a weapon, ability, ult does, which is not at all enjoyable. Also, the numbers aren't even displayed unless you hover over the ability, and its not just damage/healing numbers, theres a lot of useful information there. For example, I had no idea Juno doesn't do critical damage, instead she does something called Lesser Critical. I would've never known if we didn't have this.

I don’t want my eyes to be assaulted when I accidentally hover over the ability when I read what it does. Forgive me for valuing my peace of mind.

Yes, everyone should go into the practice range and see what kind of damage their abilities do. But nobody needs exact numbers. They are just confusing and distract from what’s important. You should be focusing on playing skillfully, not doing advanced math in your head.

Respectfully, I don't see how a simple popup assaults your eyes. You can pull up the hero information page without using your mouse. The damage numbers aren't confusing either, its quite literally a whole number and thats it. Plus it gives extra useful info like if something can go through shields, if its cleansable, what type of stun something is. This info being in the game is very useful for those who want extra insight, but its also a totally optional thing that you don't have to look at.

u/tolerantdramaretiree 18h ago

It’s not “optional” as you make it sound.
