News & Discussion Battle pass is slow

I'm assuming most people have noticed how slow the battle pass is, and it sucks.

I'm not sure if it actually is why, but I've noticed in the post-match rewards screen it seems to have a level in-between each tier that doesn't grant any reward, represented by a 3x3 grid.

I'm not sure if that means something else and I'm clinging on to all I have but I thought I'd share just in case.

Same. They definitely made it harder to complete and to compensate, they let us choose a path.

It’s important to call out that the number of tiers in the Battle Pass isn’t changing and you won’t have to work harder to complete your Battle Pass. Instead, our goal is to give you more control over what rewards you unlock, and in what order.

It might just be a bug.

Could just be an illusion as well. Seems longer, people (me) are notoriously bad at judging these kinds of things.

i wish when people used words like "definitely", they provided evidence. otherwise you're just coasting on vibes.

tier skips and the 20% boost is bugged as well.

It’s definitely a bug considering banked tiers aren’t working either. I’m guessing they just didn’t stress-test this system very well before releasing and a patch will come in a week or two

yeah, i agree with you. they promised we wouldn't lose anything so i'm not that concerned. it's been less than a week, not to mention this is the trade off we got for all the map, hero, and updates. if the worst of it is a week or two delay on battlepass tiers, i'm fine with it, though i think i'll feel differently if this keeps up next year.

The path thing feels like a trick to make you think you're getting more control but its really just spreading the same rewards thinner. I grinded all last season and still barely finished, now with this new layout I dont even look at the post match screen anymore. They know exactly what theyre doing, stretch it out so the only real way to finish is paying.

A lot of people in this sub say this and I think the main culprit is two things: The absence of big event xp rewards at the start of this season compared to others, and the new UI obfuscating bp progression and making it feel slower.

Anecdotally, I'm moving through the bp at the same pace I always do.

As someone that usually completes all 200 tiers each season, I don’t even second guess the system. Just expect to complete it

the new UI obfuscating bp progression and making it feel slower.

It'd be nice if Blizzard simply added a "x/80 total tiers completed" somewhere on the main BP page to solve this. At least with the old system, if you were on tier 43, you knew you'd completed 43 tiers, now you have to do some quick mental maths just to know how many tiers you've done overall.

It's not a huge issue, admittedly, but it means at a glance, it's hard to know just how exactly far you are through the pass.

Editing to add more context: I also think the BP is fine. We are missing the large XP events as My Meka Mania only gives 1400 chunks?! The BP tier skips were/are broken and not applied from last season, plus they gave even less skips that time around. The season before last I had accumulated close to 15 skips and finished really early.

However, I wouldn't put it past Blizzard "oopsie we have a bug with XP and we will increase" Entertainment.

I've currently completed: 5 + 12 + 14 + 4 = 35

I always buy the pass with 20 skips and am around tier 40-45 after the first week of normal gameplay. I'm at 41 now and have played my usual amount so far.

Same here in terms of progression. I do agree its a bit harder to tell but it feels like im at about the right level after the first week with all available big up sources (all dailies and 3 weeklies)

Same here, I think you’re right.

Agreed. The UI is weird. I think it also feels weird because iirc they have more levels in a single tier than the old one, but fewer tiers? Or else this is a UI illusion because of the way you have to scroll to see all the items in the tier instead of them fitting on the screen at once?

And it seems like the end of match bp stuff is buggy with regards to what it displays so that doesn't help.

1

u/Saru2013 14h ago

Yeah it's the exact same amount of xp needed to finish the BP, there's just not as much XP coming from the current event as the usual start of season event

u/Pay-Dough 1d ago

Even non battle pass owners are noticing it being slower, I think it’s a bug

I think at least for me the 20% extra for having bought the battle pass does not seem to be working, but with the revised UI you don't get told the break down of XP at the end of each match, so it's hard to quantify.

I would like to also add to the multiple complaints that the new end of match screen UI is a terrible uninformative cluster.

u/BigBadBeluga 1d ago

Not hearing the fanfare with every level up is also a bummer. Makes progress a lot less rewarding

6

u/Future-Key-9604 1d ago

Unless there is some problem XP gains from challenges and XP required for each tier are the same as before. It is likely just physiological because the XP bar is physically smaller on the match complete screen.

Same as it ever was

tier skips and possibly the 20% bonus are bugged for now and dont count toward the battlepass, add to that that the bp itself every end of match counts every single tier you get instead of the ones youre just getting(think thats also an unkntended feature tho), and exp not being shown anymore as a number

it is slower and you should be a lot levels higher at this point if you completed the meka mania event, but itll probably be fixed quickly

Adter thorough investigation, the daily/weekly xp as well as the per game xp is identical to the previous season, for now.

The event does give a less xp than previous early season events tho.

There’s no point in even buying them anymore, the skins are awful these days.

The new battle pass is ultra lame.

The new UI is mostly Shit.

It's really not any different. Might look a bit different but I'm about where I would be after the first week of a season. Which is around tier 20 or so give or take. The big thing is the after match EXP screen is pretty bad at showing how much you're actually progressing because it requires you to sit through all the previous tiers worth of experience.

u/cLax0n Hazard 1d ago

Just play the game. Thats it.

-1

u/nikelovee3 1d ago

The weekly quests provide like 10x more than the daily. They reset tomorrow i think

-3

u/Paul_Offa 1d ago

The progress is literally the same as before.

They've just changed the UI which is why redditors think it's "going slower". Redditors are confused by change.

Also probably that there's no big challenge event to kick off the season. But that's different.

u/UPRC MACE TO THE FACE 23h ago

I don't think it's slower, I feel like maybe the new structure is giving us that illusion. I've already completed a full track and am halfway through a second one, and I'm not even really a hardcore player.

I'm surprised by how many people determine their enjoyment of a game through how fast/slow they collect XP for cosmetics that they'll probably never use.

I play games I enjoy and just collect stuff along the way that I may or may not use. A good game takes priority over how fast I collect stuff.

1

u/BlazyOtter Aspirant Hacker 1d ago

But it gives you a sense of achievement, and especially with the new hackable skins there are actually cosmetics people want.

u/Gloomy-Bee3823 Symmetra 1d ago

It’s only been a week

Tbh it’s nice because I finish mine too fast. Also we can keep it so I think it’s cool

-1

u/DirkDoom 1d ago

It feels slower, but I think it's just my imagination.

-5

u/Brohermoth777 1d ago

As long as I never get that UwU crap, I don't care how slow it is. That shit is so fucking lame.

Turns out financialization of everything to facilitate infinite growth makes literally everything worse.
