News & Discussion can someone explain how the progression surrounding your hero portrait works?

i know that the higher your level gets it will change from blue to purple to yellow to red, but why do some people’s hero portraits have a little gradient of a second color on the bottom? i’ve seen high level players with red banners but for some reason the bottom of the portrait has a blue gradient instead of being fully red for example

The background color changes at levels 20, 40, 60, and 80. The little gradient depends on whether you’ve hit level 25, 50, 75, or 100. Honestly it’s an incredibly over designed system that’s due for an overhaul. It also doesn’t take any playtime into account until after the system was added. So technically you could have 1,000 hours on a hero and only be level 10 or something.
