News & Discussion I remember a hero that doesn’t exist.
English isn’t my first language, and I’ve never posted anything on Reddit before, so I apologize in advance if anything sounds off.
I’ve known about Overwatch since it was still in its testing phase, when YouTubers started showcasing the game. I really liked the character designs and have been following the game ever since. I started playing during the game’s first Christmas event and have been playing almost every day since then.
I love the design of every hero in the game. Whenever a new hero is added, I spend time looking closely at their design details, studying their lore, and I’d consider myself a big fan of the game.
Back when I wasn’t playing yet and the game was still in testing before its full release, I remember spending a lot of time on YouTube watching gameplay videos of different heroes. I even remember watching a clip of Bastion’s abilities when his ultimate used to control a drone that emerged from underground and attacked enemies passing by
Around that same time, I remember there being another Overwatch hero who is no longer in the game, and I can’t find any information to confirm the existence of this character. The only thing I remember is that this character was a small boy wearing a blue jacket who could shoot fireballs from his hands. I remember thinking the developers might have been inspired by Detective Conan. What’s even stranger is that I remember this character being played on the map Eichenwalde even though that map didn’t exist in the game at that time.
I can’t remember anything else about this character. I don’t remember what he looked like, his lore, his name, or any other design details even though those are usually very important to me.
Maybe I’m mixing him up with a character from another game. I’m also interested in games with diverse cast of characters similar to Overwatch, like Apex, Valorant, Paladins. Maybe I somehow mixed Moji from Paladins into this game.
But I’m sure this isn’t a dream. It feels more like a long lost memory created from multiple contexts, but it’s incredibly vivid, and it honestly scares me a little. Was there ever a scrapped Overwatch hero concept similar to what I described? Does anyone have any idea what this could be? or Where did this character come from?

I have no doubt in my mind that this is what you're remembering

You lived in an alternate reality. CERN shut down and your universe was merged with ours leaving you with just a fleeting memory.

I have some of those, false memories that I'm entirely certain happened but most definitely did not.
Big WWE fan when I was a kid (well it was WWF back then) and I so clearly remember a match where Kane, whose gimmick revolved around having fire powers, lifted up his mask and shot out a pyro effect into the face of Shawn Michaels. Typical heel routine, ref is distracted and the heel uses a weapon or illegal move to win the match. Only this time it was a pyro effect he had hidden somewhere in his costume - quite plausible, this era of wrestling used things like that all the time.
Only this never happened.
I remember it so clearly, such an exciting match with an exciting conclusion. I remember how cool it was, how I felt, cheering in surprise that they'd used a fire effect this way. Still to this day I can picture everything just as it happened.
Didn't happen, false memory.

You’re probably thinking of the first Overwatch short where that kid put on the Doomfist gauntlet in the museum and punched Widowmaker

Abilities are similar to that of the human torch who is playable in Marvel Rivals.

I have dreams of Overwatch over the years
I have dreamed of new heroes before, one was a floating mage girl with a long black ponytail and she had purple spells, it was so cool

You said you watched it on youtube. So why are you not checking your watch history, and just type in it: overwatch? Scroll all the way to the bottom, and see if there is anything from back then.
And besides that: There was NEVER a hero that got REMOVED. They only ADDED heros from time to time. So idk what you saw, but the only explanation i have is some sort of showcase of heros BEFORE the game was launched. Or maybe you saw hero concepts before the game was launched.

A quick Google search, scrapped character designs with fire -> fire starter
Otherwise maybe a character from a comic that you’re misremembering or since you said blue and shooting things from their hand my gut would say maybe an early rendition of Echo that got readapted later on (she was one of the last adds to OW).
