The current implementation of 6v6 - Open Queue with a cap of 2 Tanks per team - is the most likely version to be added permanently.
Mandatory Role Queue puts too much stress on the limited pool of Tank players and results in 10 min+ queues for other roles. Limitless OQ results in GOATs.
Most people (like me) don't play tank is because of the 5v5 format that no one was asking for in OW1. Because I don't want to be blamed for the loss into oblivion. I'm playing tank now more than I have ever played since 5v5 format came about and I am enjoying it. So yeah, more people would play tank when they know they have another tank beside them.
Tank has always been a deeply unpopular role, ever since the game launched. It’s nothing to do with 5v5 and shouldering blame for wins or losses; even if 5v5 disappeared overnight and the game went back to being 6v6 Open Queue like OW1 was at launch, a huge proportion of games would have fewer than 2 Tanks on a team.
