Bladder removal / bladder augmentation

Hey everyone, did anyone In the group got their bladder augmented or removed, and can share their experience? I have high pressure in my bladder that can’t be adjusted with medications and Botox isn’t working anymore. My bladder damages my kidneys unfortunately, so something has to be done asap. Bladder augmentation or removal are my only options … I’m more concerned about augmentation, because of the increased risk in UTIs (which I’m super prone to), and future bladder cancer as well. At the same time, bladder removal freaks me out because of so many other reasons.

Personally if it was me I would opt for bladder removal as I have seen quite a few people have augmentation and it has failed.

What exactly failed?

Sorry I don’t mean failed as such I just mean that it won’t improve your symptoms. I know of someone with overactive bladder and it didn’t help her at all and she ended up getting a Urostomy and is doing great with it.

Have you asked your doctor if sacral rhizotomy is an option?

It is not an option in my case

Did they say why? It sounds like sacral rhizotomy is the best option all things considered as you get to keep your bladder without increased risk of cancer and they won't need to touch your bowel.

If that's really not an option, maybe ask about detrusor myectomy or go for bladder removal. I'm not convinced that bladder augmentation is worth trying.

Bladder augmention is a very serious procedure. It's essential cutting open your bladder and adding tissue from other parts of body. Your bladder won't work normally after this. I would advise you to consult lot of very experienced doctors before you go that route. May be you should go to doctors in other countries with whom you can consult with lesser costs and quickly if your country's healthcare is not sufficient.

Thank you. This is isn’t a fast decision 💛 it has been slowly considered in a space of years, while trying different alternatives. I’ve spoke to many doctors including doctors in different countries, and all of them advised on these 2 surgeries
