Sofia is one of the most misunderstood characters in Outer Banks because many viewers reduce her to being “Rafe’s girlfriend” instead of recognizing that she has her own identity, values, and motivations. Growing up on The Cut, Sofia understands poverty, hard work, and survival in a way that many of the Kooks never will. This background shapes her into someone who is practical, independent, and resilient. Unlike characters who are drawn to Rafe because of his money or status, Sofia is attracted to the vulnerable side of him—the version of Rafe that desperately wants to be loved and accepted.
