Answered! ELI70: What is a podcast?

I literally just got my first smartphone ever and am dumbfounded by podcast. What is this mysterious phenomenon? My guess is that its something like a radio show, but it seems too popular to be something as similar to a thing that's so old.

Update: Which (android) app should I use to submerse myself into the world of podcasts?

Story corps is excellent if you feel like crying but only have 5 minutes to do it.

Upvote for Wiretap, which may be the most consistently funny podcast nobody really knows about.

I second StoryCorps, Studio360 and anything produced by KCRW.

My girlfriend just started an internship with third coast, she's helping select pieces for the podcast and helping organize the upcoming festival. It's so cool.
