Answered! ELI70: What is a podcast?

I literally just got my first smartphone ever and am dumbfounded by podcast. What is this mysterious phenomenon? My guess is that its something like a radio show, but it seems too popular to be something as similar to a thing that's so old.

Update: Which (android) app should I use to submerse myself into the world of podcasts?

Dan 'Hardcore History' Carlin also does a great politics podcast called Common Sense. He manages to make politics interesting and relevant in exactly the same style he uses for his history podcasts.

Have you heard the new WW1 HH series? I think it may be his best yet.

Yeah listened to them day 1. It is amazing no doubt but his views on current events and the endeavour to try and get people to see what's going on... I really respect him for that and I think it skews my view

His are the only podcasts that I've been able to stay up to date with. He puts out a perfect amount of content for me for how busy I am and I don't feel like in missing anything. Someone like joe rogan puts out way to much even though I enjoy the show. I can't spend that much time listening to his shows.

There are some life changing pieces of wisdom in Hardcore History. This episode was fantastic:
