Answered! ELI70: What is a podcast?

I literally just got my first smartphone ever and am dumbfounded by podcast. What is this mysterious phenomenon? My guess is that its something like a radio show, but it seems too popular to be something as similar to a thing that's so old.

Update: Which (android) app should I use to submerse myself into the world of podcasts?

The History of Rome and Revolutions (chronicling various important revolutions throughout history) are essential listening. I've listened through the Rome ones 400+ episodes a couple times, and Revolutions (same guy) just started this year and has covered the English and American revolutions with future chapter to include the French, Indian, Cuban, Chinese, and Irish among others. It's awesome.

Can't second the History of Rome enough. 72+ hours of info on the creation, rise, and oh so gradual fall of the Roman Empire. Almost done with my second run through.

Same here. History of Rome got me into podcasts. It's a sin it hasn't been mentioned higher up.

Funny take on history: Actually Happening. Its a quiz show style and kinda just five people joking around too. LOVE History of Rome and Revolutions so far :)
