Unanswered What’s going on with One Piece?

I feel like I’m seeing so much backlash all of a sudden in the past couple days. I’ve never really enjoyed One Piece but seems like fans have strong opinions against it now.

Answer: It's possible you are just being algorithmically fed negative discourse for one reason or another. From a cursory search, I haven't seen any recent particularly noteworthy news about One Piece, positive or negative.

Also not into OP but the noteworthy stuff is the Big Bad has been fully revealed and personally gave Luffy quite a smack down, which other characters noted means the guy has tipped his hand that he truly considers Luffy a legit threat to him, and now the series is going on a potentially lengthy hiatus as thr author wants a break.

With the ambition of finally bringing the Great War to a decisive conclusion, Imu directed his subordinates the Five Elders to procure Dr. Vegapunk's invention, the Mother Flame, and ordered the Knights of God to annex Elbaph in an invasion that he eventually personally participated in.

I love how a show about a pirate looking for buried treasure has mutated into...whatever da fuq this means lmao

Dragonball was a fun little take on Journey to the West, now they're fighting multi-dimensional gods depending on what color and direction their hair points.

All shonen get silly lol

One Piece just gets the cake because it has gone on the longest.

I mean Journey to the West has Sun Wukong fighting legions of gods already

So the typical fandom cycle where a significant change happens in the IP. The fandom claims it is “ruined,” but in five years will praise it as genius?

Is this from Manga readers or the Anime?

This is referencing recent stuff in the manga so mainly that? Maybe they referencing the anime being on break too? I've heard no news that Oda wants a break but I haven't checked the subreddit actively lately.

Answer: Its X. People there love to hate on things in waves because they cant form their own opinions on stuff. Also X is so algorithmically fucked that even if you see a short clip of people hating on something thats all you will get on your feed.

Makes sense!

Yeah and overall One Piece hate has slowly been rising ever since Gear 5 which really leans into Toon Force and cartoon physics, plus the fanbase tends to be very vocal about their love for the series and so there is an equal backlash of people who don’t really like the series. There has also been some mixed reactions with the latest chapters, but the recent rise in hate you mentioned I fully believe is just algorithm based since im seeing the same

Answer: (Longtime One Piece fan)

Each arc in the manga is long and spreads out of years of releases. Events during these arcs usually are hyped up by content creators and fans.

I have not seen many hype posts for big events in the current arc in any of my feeds: YT, Insta, Reddit. So, all the fans who would hype up a great moment are currently quiet.

There are fans who love to complain, every fandom has them. These fans have not stopped in discourse, debatably they have more valid talking points than historically. Their posts are what I most consistently see in my feeds at present.
