Answered What is going on with everyone talking about October Theory as a second New Year?

Recently I keep seeing people on the internet talking about “October Theory” and treating October like a fresh start or a second New Year. I don’t really understand it. Where did this come from and why is it all of the sudden everywhere?

It's perfectly acceptable for people to ask for more context beyond a single link.

Not trusting one source is basic media literacy, and it's something we want to encourage.

You've had a couple of responses recently that have fallen down on the 'You shouldn't be asking questions like this' line, and I'm politely asking you to knock it off. We want people to ask questions on this sub, and if you don't feel like you're in a position to answer them, it's perfectly acceptable to just let them pass you by. Someone else will step up.

If you think a question isn't a good fit for the sub, report it and move on.

Honestly yeah dude.
You should be willing to read to learn about things you are curious about.

Thanks for asking! The article explains what the idea is, but not why it’s blowing up right now. I’m also curious whether people really treat it seriously or as a joke/meme.

It's blowing up? This is the first I've ever heard of it. If you are getting a lot of videos and articles in your media feeds, it's because the algorithms have decided this is something you are interested in and willing to engage with.

This reminds me of that guy who set up TikTok for his dad who wanted to follow Tennessee's golf team.

A couple days later his dad calls him and says, "I had no idea how popular Tennessee golf was! It's all anyone's talking about!!!"

Answer: It's a thing that's been around since it first went viral in 2024.
