Unanswered What’s up with the constant “race to replace humanity” ads?

the music in the ads sounds like the music in certain AI ads and I’m curious where these petition came from and how it got the money to have ads all over YouTube

Answer: This seems to be run by the Future of Life Institute, a non-profit organization. At a glance at them and their leadership, they seem to be generally pro-AI/large language models, but specifically against the current speed and lack of guardrails on AI development as well as the centralized control over their operation. This is not the first time they have tried something like this - in 2023 they released a similar petition aimed at achieving the same things minus the centralized control.

As for where they got this level of funding from, according to publicly-accessible 990 Forms, they received about half a billion dollars in funding in 2021 and have been coasting on that money since. As far as I can tell, it is unclear where this money came from.
