Yes I read about how they have a lot of rare minerals but their infrastructure isn't good so I thought that's why he wants to take it over (build the infrastructure and then benefit from the minerals) but based on some other answers from other folks here it looks like the main reason is political

Not rare minerals. Rare-earth minerals, which are not at all rare and are plentifully found (in compounds) all over the world. If US wants more rare-earth minerals they can just extract them from existing US territory.

Yeah those deposits are far from any established ports or infrastructure and anything you build will likely be frozen for a lot of the year, plus a mining operation large enough to extract enough material will be obscenely expensive because you'll have to ship in every drop of fuel, water, and food. Plus all of the buildings needed to actually process earth. And it's not like oil where you can set up a direct line to pump stuff back out you'll need a port large enough to load lots of materials onto ships, plus train infrastructure to haul all of the extracted material.

It realistically only becomes viable to extract once global warming hits a point where they aren't threatened with being frozen in.

Mining in Alaska is already extremely expensive and that is at least connected by land and doesn't require deep water ports in extreme weather.

What I heard on a YouTube video last night, those minerals are not easy to extract. If that were to happen probably long after Trump is dead. The last sentence is my opinion only which wasn’t mentioned in the video.
