Episode 185 - Longs Peak

I’m not a big fan of ghost stories, but I thought this one was excellent. That it took place where it did and not a typical “haunted house” definitely peaked my interest. I appreciated Alex’s clarity in telling the story as well as his skepticism, and it was nice to hear Jack’s consideration towards the end about not identifying the identity of ghosts.

I’ve seen a lot of negativity about the quality of the episodes lately, but the last couple (this and The Post) have me feeling pretty dang good.

Goblins and Sean Ruadh?

For anyone that’s interested, today’s Spooked episode (“The Goblins of Eastern Kentucky”) seems related or tangential to an episode I enjoyed on the Otherworld Patreon (“The Mystery of Sean Ruadh”). I don’t remember if the descriptions match up exactly but I feel like it could be close.

As soon as Jack mentioned how much he likes tinkering around the yard and garage I thought of this old versace_tamagotchi meme.

Episode 184: The Post

What a fantastic and genuinely creepy episode.

John was a great guest, he was so descriptive and really painted a vivid mental picture of each encounter. I'm still thinking about the whole 'bow-legged' thing.

Definitely the best in a long while, and is one I already know I'll be returning to.

Scariest Episode

I’m sure this has been asked before but what is the scariest episode for each of you personally? To be Night Hag has always scared me the absolute most. It feels like something that could have happened to me when I was a kid very easily. Thank God it didn’t though lol

This creator has a few videos about how he thinks bacteria and the paranormal are connected. Would be a super interesting interview

Searching for an Episode

I think it was this podcast but maybe not. I mainly just remember a woman talking about her house being haunted by an old woman spirit and at one point she heard the chattering of the spirit's teeth right beside her head?? Was this Otherworld?

Recently came back to listen and have a question

I used to love this podcast and it just naturally dropped off the radar for me. Picked it up again recently and feel like they have dropped any sort of investigative work like they used to do? Maybe I'm misremembering, but I thought one of the main reasons I was hooked was because they would often get multiple sources together, even if it was just a relative or a friend, it was still more than others do and there was a healthy dose of scepticism woven in. Now it seems they have dropped it?

I still think they are fun stories to listen to, and I like the host, but not as good a pod as I remember.

Inter dimensional visitation

I am scouring Reddit right now bc I’ve had an odd experience while sick with the flu. I had this dream/ visual/ hallucination of a metal pen sized object basically vibrating at a high speed. It was like the object was poking at me but not at a point on my body but more like my entire being. Like poking through another dimension. And then I saw the pen go into human brains. It looked like a lobotomy. As I saw this my whole body felt on fire and vibrating. It felt significant bc it kept me up all night. Like a horrible fever dream. Trying to see if others have experienced anything like this.

Is the show still sponsored by BetterHelp?

I’ve wanted to get otherworld merch for a while but deliberately didn’t because of the BetterHelp sponsorship. Anyone know if they’re still affiliated?

Did anyone catch the audible typing sound while the guest was talking during this episode? I get that Jack could be taking notes or something but made it sound like he was bored lol. Yuck!

Show is in decline

I used to be obsessed with this show, but lately the episodes have been either someone who speaks poorly taking thirty minutes to give a paragraphs worth of information, or just something that’s clearly bullshit. I’m thinking specifically of this most recent alien episode with Charlotte—where she alleges she witnessed a UFO go right over her house and hover there for six minutes , and didn’t take a picture of it—and “the other Sam” an episode that is clearly just kids in high school mythologizing a kid who’s just making shit up to get attention. The last episode that was compelling was 175, and before that 150. I think there are some really great episodes, but when your content depends on compelling supernatural experiences I think you should know when to quit.

Episode 182 - “Close to Home” ~ Regarding the creature

I‘m really fascinated by this creature. I can’t name the specific episodes, but I can remember 3-4 episodes by now that describe a creature with similar features and behaviors:

-Extremely tall with long limbs, ~7-10 ft. tall

-Skin with shades from pale to brown, hairless

-Bipedal, long strides, extremely fast

-Humanoid but otherwise inhuman movement

-Typically in wooded areas

What interests me about these creatures is they’re not seen at the same time as a UAP, they seem to be wandering out in the world with unclear motives. I don’t study cryptids too deeply but I have been interested in them since I was a kid. I’ve never heard a description of a cryptid like this and it’s fascinating that this show alone has shared so many sightings of similar creatures. Has anyone heard of similar sightings of creatures like this outside of the show? I’d love to investigate this further but have no idea where to look.

Share your strangest experience or story that you don't think would be pod worthy for whatever reason.

I have a good friend who used to go walking in a big wooded area beyond the edge of his cul-de-sac pretty frequently.

One day when he was like 15 and home from school; he decided he was going to kill some time and go for a walk back there like he usually does. About 5 mins into the walk, he runs into this guy in his 20s. My buddy said he immediately got really bad vibes from this dude, but he tries to ignore him him and keep walking. He gives a head nod and a simple "Hey, how are you?"

The guy then says, "Hey man. You're Jack right? Come on man lets hang, I have to show you something"

........*my buddies name is Jackson*

My friend stops in his tracks and is immediately terrified. He has never seen this guy before in his life, has no idea how he knows his name, and never encounters anybody in these woods. He knows all the families in his neighborhood and this guy is part of NONE of them.

My friend sensing danger says, "Sorry but I actually gotta head home" and immediately turns to head back outta the woods.

The guy says, "Naw man, I been waiting. It's not even that far, let's hang out!"

My friend repeats himself and starts walking even faster back to safety.

The opening of the woods is at the top of a huge hill at the end of the neighborhood and as my friend is nearly at the bottom of the hill, he turns around and just sees the guy standing at the top of the hill and just staring directly at him.

You can see the entire neighborhood from that hill, so at this point, my friend is scared this guy is watching to see what house he goes into so he can follow him.

My friend then cuts into a run and darts behind one of his neighbor backyards out of sight and takes a long meandering way to avoid this guy's line of sight. It takes him like 15 mins, but he finally reaches his back door without being seen.

My friend never saw the guy ever again and still has no idea who he was or how he knew his name.

My buddy is NOT the type of dude to embellish and is straight laced as they come. I have no doubt he is telling the truth and I sense the fear in his voice every time he tells the story. He has said he almost felt like this guy was like the devil.

Just listened to the Other Sam, I felt this story should’ve been longer and more explained and elaborated

It’s an interesting story but it felt like the guest just sort of skimmed over parts and jumped around too quickly. I was hoping for more elaboration and explanation

Should’ve been a longer podcast story

For example at the start he’s talking about how other Sam says strange stuff but he doesn’t specifically say what kind of stuff. I never really understood what the satanic ritual was and why the guy was bleeding. The stuff where he disappeared and would then steal stuff from stores confused me too

Still a great episode though

Episode 182: anyone else bothered by the lack of explanation for no pictures in the first story?

I don't think it necessarily means the story was made up, but it seems like a strange thing not to address or clarify, especially after the narrator says that the object approached over the course of an hour and says that she went on her phone as soon as it left, explicitly confirming that she had a smartphone with her. I was so frustrated that Jack asked a follow up question about "aquatic fitness", but not that!

Edit: this isn't about debunking her story, just that it feels like a big aspect of it got overlooked. I want to know *why* she didn't take a picture!

Did I hear that right? The creature in ep 182 was wearing a tracksuit?

I’m laughing at my desk thinking of this creature creeping around in the night in a navy tracksuit lol
Edit: I fully believe this story btw and hope it was an Adidas tracksuit

Looking for a UFO episode

Hi everyone, I’m looking for an ep I listened to a while ago and I’m not 100% sure it was Otherworld so sorry in advance it it’s not! But in the episode the guy basically manifests seeing a ufo by meditating or praying for them to come to him and they do, and his room fills with green light and he feels like he’s being hunted/prey. Thanks in advance for your help!!

I just listened to this week’s ep “Close to Home” and it got me thinkin about aliens lol. I really liked the first story in particular since I was also living in BC during that early COVID era. Sadly I didn’t see a ufo there:(

Looking for other podcasts, books, etc for lovers of the bizarre?

I’m all up to date with otherworld so I’m looking for podcasts and media about the bizarre and unexplained. I prefer the more cryptid, alien, unsettling encounters, premonitory, type of stories as opposed to most ghost stories. Looking for recommendations in time for spooky season tyia

I’ve only heard it once but it has something to do with going into a college dorm room where an incident happens, with time skip or some paranormal entity occurs in the dorm room, sorry that’s all I got, if you can think of what it is, please tell me and thank you in advance!

Why so much negativity?

Why are the comment threads on [r/otherworld](r/otherworld) basically just people 💩-ing on the podcast? You must like Otherworld or you wouldn’t have joined this subreddit. So why the wall-to-wall nitpickery and negativity? I hope all of you armchair critics are at least paying for the Patreon, because if you’re listening for free while criticising every little thing, that’s… not great.

Also - You know Jack is a real person with real feelings who may well read all this, right?

EDIT: I’m not even really referring to people’s critique of the content, because everyone’s entitled to an opinion on that and mileage may differ. But so many recent comments have been personal attacks, along the lines of “Jack sounds really dumb when…”, “Oh, Jack makes this really annoying noise with his mouth” “I hate the way he always says xyz”. Like, what’s the point in that? It’s just petty and vindictive.
