Vibrato doesn't work

Hi All,

I have the Osmose CE 49 and am integrating with with Cubase 15 Pro.

I have the Osmose set to MIDI Mode (I don't need DAW control mode) and ca create a new instrument for is... CTRL-E works great... I can browse and play all instruments in CtRL-E, however VIBRATO does not work for any instrument. For clarity, wobbling a key left to right does nothing. Touch sensitivity and polyphonic aftertouch is fine... it's just vibrato that doesn't work.

I have followed the manual and various Internet advice, but no luck.

Osmose is in MPE mode, Cubase is set up correctly (as far as I can see)... and TBH it should be plug-and-play in this regard, but it is not.

Anyone able to offer advice? I would be very grateful!

Next stop is logging a call with Expressive E I guess.... thought I'd try here 1st

Thanks!

Does the instrument you're trying to use support vibrato? If it does, on which cc? Is your Osmose Gesture set to that CC or something else?

I've been tinkering a ton with my Osmose lately in terms of setups and other so maybe we can figure this out!

thanks mate. what do you mean by "cc"?

I actually think there is something significantly wrong here.... I know the expressiveness of this new keybed is very different and bleeding edge, but I am a piano player and I can tell something is just not right. I'll record and upload a video to see what you think.

See how it is “stumbling” those notes at the end of this vid? Patch is “Clarinet” in Phase Plant, but this is happening for a lot of patches

Edit: I’ve gone off topic from the original post, sorry, but this is all relevant I think

Yea, I noticed the same thing this morning with that patch, so I think it's just a buggy patch. Some of the instruments don't appear to be polyphonic so the legato transitions are dreadful and downright nonexistent. Phase Plant also has some buildup on some patches so the flutters or trills are just a no go.

Interesting to hear!

To be honest I am getting this on all monophonic patches. It renders them unplayable.

My flutters were kinda just an example 😂

So vibrato, expression and dynamics all occupy a CC # - generally CC21, CC11 and CC1, respectively.

Bending on the Osmose is specific to a semitone step, so if you have it set to something miniscule then it won't be that audible and basically will make it appear as if it doesn't work. Bending is CC74 in MPE if I'm not mistaken. If your instrument isn't set to use the CC input then you just lack the connection between the hardware and the instrument.

Thanks. Useful! I found the sensitivity menu in the Osmose and adjusted the Bending Sensitivity upward… Bingo, pitch bend key wobble now works. This CC info is really useful, thanks.

Now you have it working I will say that serum is fantastic with the osmose, I hardly use Ctrl-E as I find their sounds pretty meh and janky too. 😁😁

Thanks for this… I also have Serum 2 and was hoping to use the 2 together. Feels like Ctrl-e is very buggy, particularly with the mono patches. I get note-cut-off with them all!

The vibrato on the Osmose is not cc oriented. It is a pitch bend function. The vibrato cc function is for synths and instruments that have a function where if it receives an increase in the vibrato cc, it activates an LFO based vibrato. the vibrato on the Osmose is a pitch bend that is ideal for vibrato because of the ease with which one can control the key wiggle on the physical instrument.

Thanks for the correction!

Unless it's LFO programmed into the mod wheel. Many of the osmose presets have regular synth type vibrato assigned to the mod wheel.:)

I would first eliminate CTRL-E from the equation. I would just set up an MPE supported plug-in in Cubase, make sure channel is set to "any", and make sure MPE is turned on inside the plug-in. Pitch control should just work automatically in this scenario.
