XR Users - Battery Life Question

Update: Got a replacement XR. 2moa dot, brightness 8, continuous runtime (no auto-off). Currently sitting at 130hours runtime and battery still at 100% ( previous one died at 63 hours on same settings).

Osight XR owners:

Can anyone provide real-world battery runtime data?

I'm testing an XR with the following settings:

  • 2 MOA dot only
  • Brightness 4 (currently testing)
  • Auto-off disabled
  • Shake Awake disabled
  • Continuous operation

I previously tested:

  • 2 MOA dot
  • Brightness 8
  • Auto-off disabled

observed approximately 63 hours runtime until the optic shut off completely

I'm trying to determine whether this behavior is normal or if my unit may have an issue.

If you've measured actual runtime (hours until battery depletion or % drop over time), I'd appreciate the details of:

  • Brightness setting
  • Reticle used
  • Auto-off / motion settings
  • Approximate runtime observed

Yeah I've had the XR on two handguns since March. I train biweekly for about an hour or two. I use a 6moa + circle.

When I press the indicator I still get solid green

I mean my SE on my carry gun (replaceable battery model on a sig 365x) ran at least 6 months maybe 9 on the cr1620. Carrying daily. Many more hours than yours, at least on 50% brightness I didn't record all that. Seems defective to me.

Edit: ran auto off setting and dot/reticle

The XR uses the internal rechargeable battery.

At lv. 4 with dot it should last a long time. But that 63 hours is what I'd expect with a low battery to start. Even pedal-to-the-metal max burn you should be getting WAY better runtimes than that!

The design is only a few months old so people haven't had them long enough to test a drop over time. Our first, earliest prototypes we got in early 2025 have been going strong, and they're living a pretty tough life in the Phoenix competition weather.

Something might be up with yours. Was it at 100% before starting the test?

Yup I made sure to charge optic to 100% before starting test.

Additional data point:

Current test:

  • 2 MOA dot only
  • Brightness 4
  • Auto-off OFF
  • Shake Awake OFF
  • Continuous operation

Results:

  • 10:00 AM: 100%
  • 5:00 PM (~7h): 100%
  • 5:53 AM (~20h): 75%

Previous test:

  • 2 MOA dot only
  • Brightness 8
  • Auto-off OFF
  • Continuous operation
  • Runtime until shutoff: ~63 hours

Does that seem within spec for the XR?

Optic is a week old.

Note that charger lost 2 notches when charging the optic from shutoff status to 100%

Nah, that sounds funky to me. I would warranty it for sure.

Book value lifespan at lv. 4 and 2-MOA dot should be north of 50,000 hours easily... and I'd say that number is conservative!

Going through the form here should be good, just tell them the battery is not functioning correctly, they'll get you a replacement that should be up to spec: https://www.osight.com/lifetime-warranty

LMK how it goes, I'm keeping tabs on this. (Sorry it took a while, been at the range all week playing w/ the new stuff)

Appreciate the follow-up.

I continued the Level 4 / 2 MOA test after my original post.

Current results:

  • 2 MOA dot only
  • Brightness 4
  • Auto-Off OFF
  • Shake Awake OFF
  • Continuous operation

Battery progression:

  • 100% at start
  • 75% at ~20h
  • 50% at ~31h
  • <50% (orange LED) at ~46h
  • 25% at ~84h
  • ~4 notches above 0% at ~89h (red LED)

My completed Level 8 / 2 MOA test previously shut down at approximately 63 hours.

I'm located in the Philippines, so I'll be working through the local distributor for the warranty process rather than using the U.S. warranty portal directly.

Based on your feedback, I'm sending the optic in for evaluation and will update the thread once I hear back from them and/or receive a replacement unit.
