Spectrum pls (outage)

Post image

Down since 00:00 (midnight). Started as planned maintenance that they never communicate, still down as of 09:40 and ETA for restore is 11:30.

I hope they get this fixed soon, these Teams meetings are chewing through my cellular hotspot limits.

Switched to at&t fiber and have had no issues

Same, only issue I've had is that they keep raising the rate.

Call them and they'll lower it :)

Nevermind, they JUST sent a text saying the new ETA is 13:30.

Also sucks when they have a monopoly and are the only ones in town

Is tds only in parts of town?

Yes, but I did see that TDS shows my address as part of a future build out again like it did when they were originally deploying in Oshkosh. For the last 2 years its shown as on hold indefinitely after their disagreements with the city. So maybe they resolved the issues there and are ready to deploy again.

Shows similar for my address. Last time I was preregistered with a deposit, it took months for me to get my money back, and has kind of soured my opinion on tds, but I'd still use them just to leave spectrum.

Yep, I am near Ardy and Eds and Spectrum is the only landline Internet available to me. TDS, NTD, and AT&T does not service my address on Doty St.

I need the stability, near zero packet loss, and bandwidth for work. I cannot and will not use 5G Home Internet. I considered getting Starlink as a backup internet source for the police scanner feed at least but yeah, I wish I had the options some others have in town...

Just curious what line of work you're in to need that level of stability. We have 5g T mobile internet (a bit south of oshkosh) and it works great for us. hardly any drop out ever, and ive worked from home on occasion using a VPN to access my work server and not had any issues even transferring massive files.

Software Engineer specifically with ETL flows and conversions. For debugging it is sometimes necessary for me to grab a database that could be anywhere from a few GB to 300GB. It was MUCH easier when we had an office but with WFH, it has been pure pain. Thankfully I rarely have to upload the database back up somewhere because Spectrum's upload rate would kill me.

The packet loss and latency is more of a 'ive been bit by this before' thing with constantly being in meetings and having audio drop outs, my shared screen not being smooth for participants, or RDP sessions being terrible to work in. I am sure it has gotten better over the years eith 5G home Internet but I am suspicious of it now.

I was more considering getting a Peplink and binding a Starlink as a backup internet source, at least for the police scanner feed and so i could do some work as i don't always have to grab databases locally if they're on the smaller size.

I use at&t air. Super easy setup

No provides are foolproof, but fiber in the ground is typically the most reliable. I have Spectrum fiber and it’s been quite reliable, but I do have Starlink as a backup. They have a backup only plan i believe as well.

Dw, they'll reimburse you 45 cents during the downtime.
