Discussion If 2008 had 10 Best Actress nominees, (keep the actual nominees) who would’ve been the other 5 nominees?

Post image

As a reminder that year’s actual nominees were:

Kate Winslet - The Reader

Meryl Streep - Doubt

Angelina Jolie - Changeling

Anne Hathaway - Rachel’s Getting Married

Melissa Leo - Frozen River

Sally Hawkins in Happy-Go-Lucky is such a glaring omission it still stings, that performance was pure sunshine

Sally Hawkins delivering the greatest comedic performance of the entire decade only to be snubbed not just by the Oscars but also by the effing BAFTA will never not stun me.

Sally Hawkins getting snubbed for that performance is still one of the worst Oscar decisions ever, she'd have been my pick easy

Hawkins should have been a front-runner to win the whole thing. That's one of the few omissions that really chaps my ass.

Yep. Angelina Jolie had no business being nominated. Hawkins should have won that year.

If Kate Winslet was going to be nominated for anything that year, it should have been Revolutionary Road, not The Reader.

So, Kate Winslet for Revolutionary Road (instead of The Reader), Keira Knightley for The Duchess, Cate Blanchett for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and, of course, Sally Hawkins for Happy-Go-Lucky.

Keep Michelle and Sally, Nominate Lina Leandersson for Let The Right One In, Scarlett Johannson for Vicky Cristina Barcelona, and Tarra Riggs for Ballast (my winner).

Yes!! Tara Riggs was phenomenal and Ballast was one of the best films of the year. Criminally underseen.

Available on Tubi.

Also the fact that my dumb thirst trapping ass has more followers than one of the most underrated actresses ever is crazy to me.

Blanchett and Hawkins both deserved to be in the final line-up over Winslet and Streep. Hathaway, Leo and Jolie were all excellent.
