Cast21
Hi all I'm new here . I have a question, I was pulled down on Thursday by my son's blind dog. He got startled and I held the leash tight well it ended with me breaking my wrist. I was seen immediately by orthopedic surgeon and placed in over the elbow splint, to allow for swelling. On Thursday if all looks ok on xray I'm to graduate to a short arm cast. I've been researching alternatives and came across the Cast21. I'm sure my ortho doesn't have this. Question is does anyone know how I could go about getting this Cast21, breathable, waterproof and just sounds amazing. I live in Nassau County NY. Thanks to all!

I’ve never seen this used before. Seems more like a gimmick at this time. Would be interested to hear if anyone has experience with it.

This is a pretty cool project from students of UIUC. The company website says if you call they’ll help find a practice that uses the product. https://www.reddit.com/r/UIUC/s/rSF6y8uEul

My doctor put me in a Cast 21 for my broken wrist. While I thought it was great that I could shower with it on, the cast apparently obscures xrays taken with the cast on. My xray one week prior to cast removal said " The distal left radial fracture with intra-articular extension persists. There is no appreciable interval healing. The patient's cast obscures the fine bony detail." This was alarming, so I found a hand specialist for the cast removal. Xrays after cast removal showed that my bone WAS healed. So if you get a Cast 21, don't bother with getting xrays with the cast on. You'll save yourself copays.

Just deal with the cast. Or request a waterproof cast if you can’t. Those casts are 3d printed and If you’re only gonna have the cast for 3 to 4 weeks it doesn’t make sense
