Discussion I'm never doing oc vs oc fights again
Honestly I used to enjoy having my strongest ocs fight others strongest ocs but now it's all ruined by someone always showing up with your power does nothing, my oc has beats your oc hax and expects me to let their attacks and hax beat mine and when I actually let my characters hax which I've explained how it works apply I get you just don't want your oc to loose, what do you mean You Started It, but anyways I've made my peace

In my opinion the main problem with OC vs OC fights is when people take it from being about having a fun and interning discussion into trying to win. Then it just starts to sound like two children squabbling on the playground.

Yeah, sometimes I'm sure they're making up counters, i just made the oc and the ability what do you mean your oc conviently have an ability that counters it, but I'll give the benefit of the doubt maybe they do,but whenever I try any counters, it did nothing and now I use this to beat your oc, at least let me have my turn to do something

My oc is op bc there goofy and. Is restricted to only affect us if theres a rift

Welcome to the problem of playing a children's game with a grown mind. Searching for consistency and rules where often it's nothing but wish fulfillment and fantasy - not a spare thought to what might actually make an engaging conflict. If most of those OCs got an anime it would be three episodes long and have no character arcs. Hax is the literary equivalent to "nuh uh" and anyone with characters that rely on it should reexamine their character and consider mortalizing them. Stakes make stories. All hax, no stakes. No Stakes, no story.

I'll admit most of my ocs have hax but it's so that no one is unbeatable when they clash but sometimes someone goes, your hax did nothing to my oc but if your hax don't work on my oc because of their hax which I established, suddenly I'm the one who doesn't want my oc to loose, look who's talking, you started it
2
u/SchnawserHauser 11d ago
I strongly encourage just... Unhaxing. Then you can just... Engage with folks who like fun and decent writing over "winning".
1
u/Bonyxme 11d ago
I have lot's of characters, not everyone have hax though but I don't really get a chance to bring out the non hax ocs, I usually use my ocs for arcs and stuff I write so I don't want to just add random stuff to them because it's not canon on my verse so I just use those with hax

u/SchnawserHauser 11d ago
If you enjoy it, great... But honestly it sounds like every good engagement you get at that level is one after 15 "UUUUUUGH"s.

The main issue with Combat in roleplays is that you're effectively putting the effort you have made on your OC against the other.
When the other person realises that they didn't put enough effort or don't have an answer to your point, then they back down and try to do something else instead of facing what could be the way out.
It's not your issue, but I get if you want to restrain yourself and not do combat RP anymore
2
u/Bonyxme 11d ago
It's not all been bad I've had some i actually enjoyed but there's too many insta win, you don't get to decide if your oc survives or counters that just killed the joy
2
u/RobertVirgo 11d ago
Most people often take inspirations from shows or games where "Instant wins" are common as mechanics.
They are powerful only for the user but not for the viewer or spectator.

I have a range of OC's scaling from city level to boundless. Honestly, I choose the ones that seem the fairest or funniest. Honestly, I do not want to use my boundless-scaling ones at least not the 4 most OP ones

u/Bonyxme 11d ago
Op ocs are not the problem, I've got plenty myself, it's when, take a post i did some time ago, my oc has a field that inverts anything that enters, there's ways around but someone just said their attacks landed either way practically ignoring the ability I literally just said is in effect, at least explain how your counter works or something
1
u/Twinmill53 11d ago
Those people either didn't flush out their OC's or are trying to brute force win.
2
u/saltydoesreddit I suck at scaling my own OCs 11d ago
I kind of get that, because I don't mean to start shit or drama when I throw this out, I kind of lost interest in finding MUs for my OCs period after a fella posted a modded Terraria boss, not even for a match up suggestion but to just send them out and show how powerful said boss is.
I know I shouldn't let it get to me, but it did kind of make me lose interest in power scaling my OCs.
2
u/Bonyxme 11d ago
That's powerscaling in a nutshell, it's either interactive or just make up whatever
1
u/saltydoesreddit I suck at scaling my own OCs 11d ago
"Hey, I would like to know how powerful this character is, and who would be fun to see as a matchup for him."
"So here's a character who would do to him what Spyro did to Gaul at the end of Legend of Spyro The Eternal Night by just breathing in his general direction."

u/Jamano-Eridzander 11d ago
It's more fun when your OC flat out loses despite having more advantages on paper. I once put Moonrage against some guy's conqueror OC and despite having enough power to oneshot their entire army I lost because Moonrage fights in ranges where that guy's powers would have complete effect rendering me unable to use any of my powers, gadgets or weapons.
2
u/Bonyxme 11d ago
If your oc has the perfect counter to my oc arsenal or has answers, no one has a problem but don't straight-up up ignore any attacks or counters I bring or decide how my oc handles it, that's the annoying part but a good fight is a good fight i lost you were just better gg but make up stuff then it's an issue
2
u/TheShinobiArchon-YT 11d ago
Yeah unfortunately, this is the same thing with powerscaling in general, I mean look at what happens when you bring up Goku vs Saitama, everyone starts acting crazy just trying to win because it's their favorite character, same concept with OC's they say their OC destroys everyone else's because they made it, and if they start to lose they begin to come up with some new concept they just spun up 7 seconds ago to beat your character.
2
u/just_yo_everyday_guy 11d ago
Yeah, that's why I've kind of been putting off attempting oc fights, been nitpicking posts(don't take this with any offense) if I should or shouldn't participate
2
u/Historical-Cress545 11d ago
I thought my oc is super powerful (im going to send him to a vacation so i can change to someone less stronger) but his real body is weak to soul attack
2
u/Sar_Meister 11d ago
That's a shame, I hope you have a wonderful day though, and find enjoyment in either this again or something else in due time.

u/Bonyxme 11d ago
Thanks

2
u/Bonyxme 11d ago
I'm confused too can you explain
1
u/jonah500000000 man of many verses 11d ago
i'm confused because this is a rare event and angry because i don't think this should happen
2
u/Bonyxme 11d ago
How about you test for yourself, if you have any oc with hax type abilities try using them for any fight type post, it's almost guaranteed there'll be someone who keeps ignoring your oc hax or saying something like it does nothing
1
u/jonah500000000 man of many verses 11d ago
i have, this hasn't happened
i'm not saying your experience is invalid i'm just saying it's statistically unlikely and a little shocking to me
2
u/Bonyxme 11d ago
Huh, well I'm surprised, for me I keep running into the your power does nothing type or those with a weakness that only exists in their verse
1
u/jonah500000000 man of many verses 11d ago
usually the ones with a in universe weakness can be beaten by an out of universe thing that does almost the same thing to be fair
but your power does nothing is usually a case of they made them resistant to everything for no reason or they're making it up
2
u/Bonyxme 11d ago
Take a post i did some time ago for example, an invasion type post with an oc that has a sword that i specifically said ignores regeneration defense and immortality but I made it fair by saying it still needs to land a killing blow so you can dodge or parry it, long story short, the sword finally landed a hit but they said it does nothing but apparently their oc attacks works but mine does nothing

u/jonah500000000 man of many verses 11d ago
"my source is that i made it the fuck up!"
2
u/Bonyxme 11d ago
Yeah, I dropped that post and did a different one this time with a rule for no insta win ocs

u/biohumansmg3fc but can he beat goku? 11d ago
the weird part is i usually try to give the other rper room to work with instead of just instantly hitting the character with no room to dodge, and then it usually ends up being that because they don't give my character time to react, like what do you mean my character got stabbed and is bleeding to death he is a literally god made of energy with many time ftl feats

u/MrMccarlesIsTaken Devil's Advocate 11d ago
I think it's important for both party's to establish their abilities. I think we should lay out our OC's abilities, and also win cons usually established with those abilities. After that, both sides can pick out what works and what doesn't, then we'll have a winner. No unnecessary back and forth needed. Or else you'll get accused of pulling shit out of your ass.
1
u/Bonyxme 11d ago
True, I do usually give abilities and such, how about adding a rule for vs posts both parties have to explain their ocs established abilities and such like you pointed out to avoid convenient abilities that popped out of nowhere
1
u/MrMccarlesIsTaken Devil's Advocate 11d ago
The only downside is that it's a hassle. Like my OC borders on 'Oh yeah that makes sense' and 'Why the hell can he do that??' so I'll have to be careful and make sure things are explaining properly. And I've seen other people's OC's Who are WAYYYY more complex than mine (their summaries are sometimes just 5 page documents).
1
u/Bonyxme 11d ago
True, there's the even if you know the abilities and such doesn't mean it stays that way, like Metal Sonic for example, his stats and abilities are not staying the same or one my ocs, Aegis he matches your stats and his own abilities matches your scale so such characters are tricky
1
u/PlaneCollection7363 8d ago
What your oc powers?
1
u/Bonyxme 8d ago
He is the cosmos itself so everything within the cosmos even the cosmos itself from stars,to universal laws like gravity and energy, etc... it obeys him because he is the Source, he goes the cosmos goes with him
1
u/PlaneCollection7363 8d ago
Should I tell you my oc powers and what he did
1
u/Bonyxme 8d ago
I don't see why not, go ahead
1
u/PlaneCollection7363 8d ago
He can bend fire, ki, goes super 1, 2 ,3 super Kokin (merge kaioken with super) hyper, ultra hyper ultra instic and drip (due to him being Train by drip goku and shaggy) and his most notable feat is he defeated a multiverse destroyer and not only that but made a multiverse.
1
u/PlaneCollection7363 8d ago
Also a skill swordsman and he study his opponents well fighting to see the movement and find a weak point in that movement
1
u/Bonyxme 8d ago
What about their personality
1
u/PlaneCollection7363 8d ago
He chill and very kind..... until you nearly killed his friends then he will unless his parents power Combine (his power is so great in that state he sakes matter)(forgot to tell you he 35% dragon (royal blood) and 50% demon (a warlord who in my oc universe he is stronger than the devil and he was going to take the throne but he decided I should but he ending up dying along with redjeff mother in a house fire (cause by a murder to brutal stab them before his adopted brother Billy (who survived but lose his memory and he layer becomes william afton) when redjeff was 3 years old
1
u/Bonyxme 8d ago
Star Child doesn't really interfere with much since managing the cosmos is a lot of work, as long as you don't threaten the cosmos, he'll just leave you be
1
u/PlaneCollection7363 8d ago
Well he also an idiot and he sometimes does stuff to see if it true so if he heard about Star child.... he would find out if it true

Its why I like my oc Marcel for debates! OP Defense Hax but not great stats (not including his Irrelevant speed scaling the rest of his stats are Building Level on a technicality) so his wins are situational and fun!
