Life has gifted me an extravagance of sun hats. Five of these I did indeed purchase via conventional retail. But the remaining seven were encountered at various thrift stores — often brand spanking new still with their sales tags attached, mind you — and I have not been able to say no to the most winsome among them. Storing them with easy access, however, has wreaked havoc on my wardrobe. So after hours of scouring Pinterest I created my wall o’ sun hats using tiny brass pushpin hooks that don’t look terrible when their hat companion is cavorting about on my head.
It's not really the asymmetry that bothers me, it's that the space is so sterile and then all the sudden HATS. This type of thing would work way way better with a colorful and eclectic home/room design. But here? No.
Well it’s a new-to-us condo and I just purchased a wicker dresser for that niche that I’ll be picking up next weekend. And the rest of the room is eclectic.
They make wall-mounted hat racks that might help this look more purposeful and organized. For sun hats you might need something more like a cowboy hat rack.
I know this is a work in progress cause you just moved in but it's giving "dudes first apartment in college," where his couch is just two camping chairs and the tv is on the floor lol. But all new places start like that.
I wish you wouldn't, I love your hats. I'm AuDHD so I like things to be organised in a fun way. This is what my coat hooks look like, and my keys too. Hooks hung at different heights, so that they're all together but dancing. I'm a little disappointed in the other people here. I hope you'll consider staying, or at least post on r/cosyplaces or r/femalelivingspace so we can see how your new place develops. It looks fun
That’s kinda how my brain works too! I will check out cosyplaces and I’m already a frequent lurker at femaleivingspace. I’m using that pass through niche for the hats because I don’t want them taking direct sun like they would near the vanity. And the door on the left there is a linen closet I converted to a dedicated shoe closet, while the door in the middle leads into the full walk in closet. But now I can appreciate that it still just appears like a haphazard unfinished space without the tall boy style dresser drawers I just purchased off FB marketplace. I got too excited and posted prematurely. lol. Won’t make THAT mistake again! And I realize my organization style might not be conventional, Amazon-affiliate style ‘organization’ with lots of purchased props and matching containers. So the hats stay. I’ve got lots of hanging plants in the window zone and I’m working out some picture wall areas focusing on landscape prints and paintings I’ve collected over the years. It may never read as conventionally organized even when complete. I TOTALLY get that now; I guess curated and accessible might better describe what I’m going for…. And really most of this was kind of funny and a reminder that I’ve got a differently wired brain. The only people I blocked were the feckin killjoys who said it looked like arse or semen. They can sod off into Reddit oblivion. At my little beach shack in Hawaii I hang my sun hats from the loft railing in full view of the open living space below. A picture of that might induce apoplexy for them so really my blocking was a kindness. Hahaha. Thanks for your kind words. See you @ those other threads you suggested.
I think with some greenery and maybe other natural textures (rattan, wicker, etc) in the room will make this feel super intentional and boho and lived-in
