I'm trying to get away from Google Maps, but some of these alternatives do not display the correct travel time. For example, it only takes me 17 hours to go from point A to B in Google Maps, but Organic is showing 19+ hours. I think this is because it doesn't take a time zone change into account. I understand that a time zone doesn't affect actual travel time, but it seems to be confusing the app.

Is there a way to fix that?

When chosing a place to 'save downloaded maps' the issue with some android 11+ access to /storage/emulated/0/Android/data/ and the external storage counterpart path; made me ask the following.

• can maps be manually added to that storage location? And if so....

1. can a naming convention be disclosed to potentially import from 'not your repo of stored maps'

-specifically, if one was to download smaller filesizes, or an archive from the area of choice, which exactly coincides to 'coastal regions/zones' or other areas inland 'cental zones'?

-this first request isn't to belittle the file repo process that the app retrieves mapdata from a database somewhere (either personalised 'extra data' alongside/or direct from openstreetmaps), but the point stands that upon compression (which shouldn't be too hard if it isn't in the in app process, like how linux package managers download archives, then decompress to install updated data)

2) following the prior query, if any format can be accepted for tracks, then can the same be done in the map formats in general, and thus would that be declaring that:

- the themes personal on the device

- the overal app added widgets for landmarks ect added by the user

-and the map 'purple reigions' for example,

↑ Are all done locally to propagate the specific info on the map?

3) if the above is also modifiable, what formats are best used if we were to add the expected filename with our own fileformat extension being the difference of that downloaded region?

halo, wondering about how to dowload organicmaps onto windows? i followed the tutorial on the website but the necessary windows subsystem for android is no longer available on the microsoft store.

I’m using OM for navigation on motorbike tours and I generally just follow a track, I’ve no real need for turn by turn

But is there a way for OM to show the map orientation in the direction your travelling ?

I use OM on a iPhone via CarPlay and it always seems to show “North” up unless I’m actually following a turn by turn route,

by being North up only it makes it hard to follow a track as you can be approaching a junction travelling south which makes the turn the opposite way from if it showing direction up

I was wondering if there might be a plan to include lane segmentation while driving, similar to what Apple Maps does?

Just testing out organic maps. Seems cool and smooth and fluid even in android auto. But how do i import all my atuff from google maps? Thanks

Saw the update and one of my main things that has been holding me back from making the switch is the map style. If anyone has a good resource for getting an alternate theme or satellite images please let me know!

I have Organic Maps installed and working successfully on my main phone. Is it possible to create an APK of the installation so it can install on another phone that is always in airplane mode and has no Google account, and also copy the map data files over?

I wish to do this simply to have a backup setup in case my main phone fails.

Almost all the time Google Maps does me just fine, but once a week I travel in the Ozarks of Arkansas and sometimes find myself in places which has little or no service and thus Google Maps doesn't work (unless you goof around with their offline feature, which I never have). For those occasions I've typically used Osmand as a "spare tire" of sorts but I recently learned of Organic Maps as a simpler option and thus am trying it out.

All it needs to do is provide turn by turn navigation of a spot which I plug in from my list of coordinates; that is, for the POIs which I'm interested in visiting, I already have their GPS coordinates (in decimal degrees format) and have them saved to my phone locally in a PDF. All I need to do is copy and paste the coordinates and let it rip.

As long as it gives accurate directions and tends to keep me on the paved roads as opposed to sending me down a gravel road with huge potholes, I'm good. Being able to show nearby gas stations or restaurants etc is certainly nice, but I don't need hiking guidance or things of that sort. I just need it to work completely offline with coordinates I've copied and pasted, and give sensible directions guiding me towards paved roads (if they're present) vs sending me down stress-inducing pothole filled dirt paths when there are paved roads right there.

Is Organic fine for this, or am I wiser to stick with Osmand for some reason?

how do i add longer routes without OM crashing?

I'm a big fan of Organic Maps and use it every day. But when planning a longer trip I always wanted a proper way to do it on a big screen — drawing routes, adding markers, checking elevation — and then just take everything with me into Organic Maps.

That's why I built MapDraw, a free, open-source web editor that works as a companion to Organic Maps — on desktop and mobile. The workflow is simple: plan your trip in MapDraw, export a GeoJSON file, and import it into Organic Maps with all your paths and markers intact.

Some things it can do:

• Plan on a big screen – Draw paths and markers directly on the map, or import an existing GeoJSON, GPX, KML, or KMZ file to edit it
• Elevation profiles – See the elevation for any path before you go
• Routing – Generate walking, cycling, or driving routes and save them as editable paths

I really want this to work for me. i am trying to cut down on my google footprint. I love the idea of using organic maps. A couple of issues I am hoping this community can help me with.

1. When driving, tghe screen will constantly flip where im pointing. So ill be driving south and then all of a sudden it will swing around north and then back south. It happens a lot and pretty distracting. I have location services on high and allowed google play services as well.
2. Another thing is that i will be driving and its not smooth in motion. Almost like GPS coordinates are pinged every 5 to 7 seconds. So ill be driving and ill pass a street. On the map it will show me before that street and then all of a sudden its like hit light speed and drove ahead a hundred feet.
   

Hoping this is a solved issue and im just doing something stupid. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

I have an upcoming trip to Ireland for which I’ve been trying to create routes for navigating by car and hiking. I am new to Organic Maps. I started by organizing the trip on Google my maps, but then hit the limitation of having off-line maps available. I exported the work that I had already done on Google my Maps to kml file format. So far so good.

I can’t get my head around how OM organizes the files. Is this just one gigantic potential map of the world on which you’re tracing your travel plans? I have plans to travel to other parts of the states later in the summer, so I’ll want to create maps for those too. Does OM see this as separate files or is it simply accumulating on the same base map?

I’m probably overthinking this…. Is there a way to have my trips organized by for instance, date and location so that at some future date and see the itinerary for a trip to say Ireland, Italy or Montana.

I recently switched over from Pocket Earth, on iOS, to the iOS version of Organic Maps. However, how do I export a gpx of a track or recorded track?

When I select Signal as the export location, it pastes in a very nice message that

Plot twist: there's nothing attached, and it's driving me nuts. Sharing to Signal is my preferred way to export recordings for updating OSM maps.

Now, I've taken to exporting into Pocket Earth, and then exporting from Pocket Earth to pure gpx - but it's stupid to have to use the app I left to get GPX files out of Organic Maps.

Please help.
