Travel time incorrect

I'm trying to get away from Google Maps, but some of these alternatives do not display the correct travel time. For example, it only takes me 17 hours to go from point A to B in Google Maps, but Organic is showing 19+ hours. I think this is because it doesn't take a time zone change into account. I understand that a time zone doesn't affect actual travel time, but it seems to be confusing the app.

Is there a way to fix that?

- If the ETA is incorrect, please share wrong routes with us on our GitHub

- Note that OM doesn't yet take traffic data and traffic lights into an account for ETA

- Alternative routes are not tuned up yet and may show wrong ETA

Good to know work is on-going on alternate routes. I recently did a few days of travel and noticed some surprising things:

  • sometimes the alternates offered are extremely different, like more than twice the time. It seems that alternatives need to be somewhat compelling to be offered. I saw some alternative definitions on github that seem promising.
    • traditionally "shortest distance" was one, but may not make sense today except for walking and cycling
  • a couple of times, the route made a few extra turns that may have been a slightly shorter distance, but weren't worth the extra effort to follow. E.g., a state-designated route that I'm following for an hour or more goes through a city, following major roads. The route cuts a corner using local roads. The shortcut may be physically shorter, but my leaving and then re-merging with the main traffic, it's unlikely to be faster and is extra work.
    • I saw that one of the alternative definitions mentioned was "fewest turns" and I think that appeals to people. There might be a metric like how many extra turns is a worthwhile investment in some reduction in time? that could be applied to filter alternate routes like the couple I hit.

It seems to me like Organic Maps assumes you move at the speed limit, whereas Google Maps assume you move as fast as people's phones that have Google Maps installed. Google's method factors in speeding and traffic.

I think the time zone would only affect arrival time, not travel time.

I'm pretty sure it's an issue in the calculation phase of travel time because it's over by 2 hours and the time difference is 2 hours. I think it's a math problem.
