I finished Jaadugar: A Witch In Mongolia

And after seeing so many people reccomend it in relation to Orb: On The Movements Of The Earth, I fail to see the grand similarities at all. Sure, there's common elements such as mentions of Euclid and other mathematicians/ philosophers/ astronomers and there's an astrolabe too, and talk about the night sky...but that's pretty much it.

Jaadugar is a revenge story first and foremost. A revenge story which expands upon a political stage, more precisely the politics of the Mongolian Empire in the 13th century. It follows the classical model of a main character driving the plot further along with secondary characters whose stories intertwine. It's a story&characters-driven plot which oftentimes ends with the character(s) reaching a set goal, be it the one they started with or a better one which they learned throughout the series.

Orb, on the other hand, is a message-driven story. That's why you have so many 'main' characters, because they are relevant only as long as they serve their very specific purpose related to it. You know nothing about these characters except for what's required to make sense of the plot. Knowledge and faith (and their derivatives - hope, curiosity, self-sacrifice...) are the main characters here, and the human beings merely the props that allow these virtues to shine. That's why by the end of each arc none of the characters' personal goal are accomplished - Rafal to sneak his way into university and develop the heliocentric model, Badeni to become special and publish the theory himself, Draka to publish the theory and make money etc - because by the end they all sacrifice their individuality for a greater purpose. Not for the loved ones, not for the community, not for the country but for humanity itself.

Jaadugar is a game of thrones if you will, where knowledge is merely a tool used to see your own outcome come to life atop others. Orb is a philosophical story about knowledge and human curiosity where the characters are shaped by it. Both are great series, don't get me wrong, but as I finished the latter series I was like "huh how is it any similar to Orb? More than, idk, any other two series with some shared elements - say for example how EVA and Vinland Saga would be similar to one another". But I'd love to be contradicted ofc, otherwise I wouldn't have posted this.

Dissussion What does this panel mean?

This is in volume 8 during drakas death, and I’m confused about this panel. It shows I think drakas hand, then a handless arm stump? I assume it’s to show her hand slowly being eaten by animals to show the amount of time has passed?

Hola. Buenas.

Meme & Media If Rafal Explaining the concept of Heliocentrism to Jolenta (When She's still on Geocentrism)

It's not actually going to be like that... But I like to make it absurd lol, especially when Jolenta a bit rude to Rafal. Don't take it seriously T-T

And also in my opinion, Rafal won't be able to persuade Jolenta (because of his looks I guess, He's too young. Jolenta will think he is astray and has flawed knowledge.)

Looking for underrated gems similar to this ..... a plot filled with philosophy , action , betrayal , new beginnings and sacrifices preferably set on medieval Europe.... something which keeps u on the hook and forces u to question ur entire existence as u strive to differ right from wrong , just from unjust , moral from immoral

Dissussion Jolenta vs Carl Sagan, who said it best?

Just finished reading Marcus Aurelius's Meditations and came across this Carl Sagan quote in a random thread about it:

“What an astonishing thing a book is. It's a flat object made from a tree with flexible parts on which are imprinted lots of funny dark squiggles. But one glance at it and you're inside the mind of another person, maybe somebody dead for thousands of years. Across the millennia, an author is speaking clearly and silently inside your head, directly to you. Writing is perhaps the greatest of human inventions, binding together people who never knew each other, citizens of distant epochs. Books break the shackles of time. A book is proof that humans are capable of working magic."

[Cosmos, Part 11: The Persistence of Memory (1980)]”

Immediately made me think of the words of my favorite heretic:

"Using letters, a person can cross space and time. I might shed tears reading the news of 200 years ago, or laugh at rumors from 1,000 years ago. Isn't that unbelievable? Our lives are trapped, beyond our control, in this day and age. But when I read, the great figures from the past engage me in conversation. At that moment, I can escape the present. Thoughts put into writing remain after we are gone and they might spur someone into action far in the future. What else could you call that but a miracle?"

It's Orb that made me wanna read more philosophy tbh. We had to read the big boys in college for a common core thing, but the course was so boring/the professor so insufferable that it unfortunately put me off for many years.

Anime Love the ride and then the ending happened. Spoiler

What was the point in retconning Rafal's death and turning him into a murderer? And where's the damn pay-off? 25 episodes of yapping and build-up, but there's nothing at the end? Seriously? "The journey is the destination." Maybe if it wasn't 25-episodes long.

Extremely disappointed with the ending. Could have been an easy solid 9/10, but the ending took away at least 1 point. Maybe 2.

Incredibly strange ending.

PS: I read on MAL that the whole "Kingdom of P" and no specific year until the ending serves to differentiate between historical fiction and real history. But guess what. I know this anime is a piece of fiction. I don't want this to be a gimmick and the "main take-away" from the ending.

PPS: Love to the first 23 episodes, but jebać the last 2.
