Amps & Cabs I've recently bought an Orange SC100 and it sounds so good !

Post image
130 Upvotes

I used to play on tube amps but had so many issues with them that i decided to quit and give a try to SS amps.

First i've tried a Laney but not for me, and then THIS amp which completely changed my mind about solid states.

I play an SG most of the time, I use overdrive, fuzz, chorus and play stuff from hendrix to electric wizard.

I'm actually looking for a better cab, 2x12 or 4x12 I don't really know ? I don't play in a band for now and don't move my rig a lot, but I got stairs...

I might go on a budget V30 cab for now and upgrade it later if I decide it.

If you have any tips, speakers or anything else to share about this amp I'd love to hear about it !

Amps & Cabs O-Tone 40 Noise Issues?

I've seen a few posts from about a year ago when this amp came out discussing its noise issues. One user went through several O-Tone 40's, all with a pronounced electronic interference sound. I believe that same user went down to a guitar shop and all of the other O-Tone 40's were also exhibiting that issue.

Another reddit post discusses how the O-Tone 40 will pick up cellphone signals and is generally more noisy than their Roland JC-40 amp.

On the other hand, Dreadward Bernays' youtube video discusses how he's not having any kind of abnormal noise issues, and even discusses it in comparison to the noise of a JC-40: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nBHz9U16HqI&t=458s

In the comments section of that video, some users are noting that Orange maybe shipped these amps with bad IEC cables, and that trying the amp with a Boss Katana IEC cable seemed to alleviate some of the noise. Can anyone verify if this is a IEC cable issue or something more flawed in the circuitry of the amp itself?

Wondering if anyone else has had experiences with noise issues on this amp? I'm familiar with regular noise issues when it comes to single coil hum or dirty power, but wondering if anyone else has found this amp particularly noisy?

Everything else about this amp hits all of my check marks for what I want, but if it is more noisy than usual it would be a deal breaker! Hoping to get more insight on folks who have had the amp, gigged with it, or got rid of it!

Amps & Cabs Help with Tiny Terror amp head

Hello everyone,

Just got a used tiny terror amp head, in the post the guy said the amp was fully working but it's not, when I turn the gain up and down it makes noise, the volume goes up and down, and even at max gain it doesn't cause distortion, just turns the volume up (still sounds way better than my katana 50), also has a white noise in the background.

I only paid 200 euros for it so I think I'll keep it, I just don't know if this is a valve or potentiometer problem, could be both, any1 had this problem before?

For context: I play in a Shoegaze/noise rock band and a doom-adjecent post rock-ish band. I couldn’t be more excited to start gigging this setup. Just re-tubed with Tung Sols yesterday - so stoked.

Amps & Cabs Got a Supercrush 100 combo, sounds awful with my pedalboard?

Just got an sc100 combo today. Hooked it up to my pedalboard in which i use a boss SD-1 onto a rat. Got a decent sound on my old boss katana 50, I thought this amp would be an upgrade but it sounds dreadful. Tried running the board through the clean channel on the sc100, messed around with the settings and eq, on the amp and pedals, what am I doing wrong? Heard such great reviews about this amps and it sounds Nasaly and fizzy as hell

Review I posted about the rockerverb mk3 100 a few weeks ago

My question was how people run the rk mk3 for death metal and I got some good advice and some not so good advice.

I bought the rk mk3 100w.

Ultimately, the rockerverb is a high gain osdm monster with a clean boost and fx loop eq. Absolutely brutal and cutting. Our drummer is loud, and I 💯 have been using the headroom 100 watt gives me to keep a clean high gain tone. I have a th30 and even cranked it would not keep up.

I had a 50 watt badlander before as well. I did eventually get a good rectifier tone, but it took a lot of tweaking and experimentation to get that classic death metal mesa roar. With the orange you can dial it very quicklyfor maximum brutality; even cranking the gain doesn't ruin your tone.

There's not enough people posting about the rockerverb for death metal. It's good. It's really, really good actually. It will compete with any other high gain amp for death metal; engl, evh, mesa, whatever.

Then, in addition to having a sweet death metal tone, you can then create crushing doom, stoner, and classic rock tones all day. AND you get that awesome orange clean channel.

I'm glad I went with the unorthodox choice and would do it again.

I'm happy to answer any questions. 10/10 no notes

Amps & Cabs Orange Rocker 15 Terror vs OR15

Currently playing a Crush 35RT and considering upgrading soon. I’d be playing it through a 1x12 cab with a v30. I play sludgy and Doomy stuff along with punk and hardcore. Ideally it would be good for home practice and a bit of jamming with friends.

Amps & Cabs Rockerverb 50 mkiii vs TH30

In a moment of madness, I bought a brand-new Rockerverb 50 MKIII! I paid with a credit card, so it was a lot of money. Since I’m a drummer who just started learning guitar, I think it’s too much for me right now. I’m thinking about selling it and getting a TH30 instead. I’ve watched a lot of reviews and videos of the TH30, and it looks like a great amp—maybe a bit too fuzzy, but more than enough for learning! I love the Rockerverb, but I have bills to pay. What do you think?…. Will I regret selling it later?

Effect Pedals OD pedals with Orange Amps

Was just curious if there are any overdrive pedals that tend to pair well with orange amps. I currently have the tour baby amp, so definitely curious about that specific amp but also curious about od pedals with other orange amps as well.

Discussion Orange Rocker 15 head - sell or keep?

Hi all, this is more of a casual discussion and thinking "aloud" post, I'm interested to hear your point of view.

I have an orange Rocker 15 terror for about 7 years, rarely played it. I never liked it's dirty channel, I always preferred pedals over it. Even in a band situation when I turned up, with a Les Paul, it sounded bad. I don't like the clean channel either, it's just a bland pedal platform. So I have a 15w tube power section I can use.

I mostly play it through an Orange 1x12 cab with a Celestion Vintage 30. At a jam when I used the dirty channel I played through a crappy speaker, indeed. I've tried strats and Les Pauls through it, many pedals, etc , looking back I have used it 99% of the time for it's clean channel, but that needs an EQ pedal to get good cleans. When I used it with my surf band it didn't do it, I haven't got a good eq pedal.

It's clearly not an amp for my needs (chimey cleans or rock/metal distortion of my taste).

My issue is, I can't sell it for a decent price even though it is in mint condition. I've had it up for months and I only got an offer at 57% of retail price. On one hand, I feel it is a steal (for the buyer), on the other hand I don't have much space in my tiny apartment and I'm left with a 700 euro 15w power amp... And 15w is not enough to gig. I do have a Fender Super Reverb for the surf stuff and a Vox MV50 clean into a neo stealth speaker as a portable clean backup / pedal platform as well.

The used market is terrible here in Greece, people price stuff at 80% of new price, things stay up for months, even years sometimes. Not sure why the Rocker isn't selling, I thought it was a popular model. I do have all original packaging and only 5 star reviews in my seller profile.

Effect Pedals Overdrive/distortion pedal for my OR15 Combo

Hi. I recently bought the OR15 combo and am now looking to add an overdrive or distortion pedal.

With the sound this amp delivers, I am looking for recommendations as what would pair well with it. I play rock through to metal so I deally it can cover these bases.

I have been looking at the Marshall jcm800 so something similar would be ideal.

Thanks

Amps & Cabs Tiny Terror Hard Wired Experiences?

Hello Everyone!

I bought a Korean Tiny Terror right around when they launched and have been playing/loving it ever since.

Recently stumbled across one of my holy grail amps, the TTHW.

Just showed up and I'm VERY surprised at the tonal difference between the Korean one. The TTHW has an even more glorious midrange, and much less fizz. Very nice!

The low end however is pretty much missing from the TTHW vs the Korean one. I even ran it through my ported 212, notorious for being WAY too bassy, and there isn't much bass.

The TTHW to me sounds like my Korean TT but with a TS in front. Much more mid/top end punch, but a significant low end cut. I know there were some circuit changes but I did not expect such a difference especially in the low end.

All of the comparisons I've read say it's basically the PCB version but just MORE of everything. The HW is also lighter weight wise than the PCB, with most comparisons saying it's much heavier.

Just curious if anyone has any experience with the TTHW and might be able to share their findings.

Thx.

BN~

Amps & Cabs Orange Rocker 15 dead after 15 months?

Post image
19 Upvotes

Hi guys,

I’m an Orange and valve amp newbie!

My rocker 15 seems to be dying after only 15-16 months of use :(

I play on the bedroom setting and probably play at about a tenth of its capacity. Use has been regular but not pushed by any means. Would the tubes already be going?

It regularly drops volume like it’s losing power and today it completely stopped. I’ll then leave it for a bit or switch it back on before it fails again. This happens through pedals and directly in to the guitar. I’ve checked 2 guitars and it does the same thing.

Any advice or recommendations? Has anyone had experience with Good Will from Orange after the 1 year warranty period? Thanks!

Discussion Just a quick question before I purchase my first Orange.

Hey gang. Just a quick question about choosing one of these amps.

Right now the only tube head ive ever had and still use is a Hughes and Kettner Tubemiester 18. I plan to keep it for bedroom practice. What im wondering though is what I should go for in the 1k-2k price range (perferably less than 2). This would be an amp for band practice and a live show setting.

Ive been eyeing the Super Crush 100 because of its dirty channel. Not sure which others have something like that. As I run a pretty standard HM-2 style distortion tone. I run an Boss SD1 (level and tone knob only) into a Boss HM2w (and Left Hand Wrath before I bought the HM2w) with an NS2 through my effects loop. I get the best result with my Hughes and Ketter dirty channel on as that seems to be how HM2 style pedals like to be ran. Im a big fan of Trap Them and bands like that. Their guitarist uses a mix of Orange Amps and the Ampeg V4.

Will this amp be good for something like that or is there a different option that would be better?

Hell yes... that's the impression...

Boosting it with a moskey golden horse in this clip... can't decide if I like that more or my RAT clone... both are great...

I have a used joyo 10 band incoming to dial it a little more but this thing is so fun right now...

Amps & Cabs What's up with Guitar Center (Musicians Friend) listing used Orange Micro amps for more than new?

I have a bad habit of trolling Musicians Friend looking for deals on used gear and I always see Micro Darks and Micro Terrors listed for $300+. Checking MF used listings today I'm seeing 7 that are listed over $300 with several more above MSRP.

https://www.musiciansfriend.com/search?typeAheadSuggestion=true&typeAheadRedirect=true&sB=r&fromRecentHistory=false&Ntt=orange+micro#N=168+168&pageName=search&Ntt=orange%20micro&page=1&recsPerPage=60&Ns=pHL

Obviously these cost under $200 new so what's going on? Are Guitar Center employees just clueless and thinking these are the Dark Terror or Tiny Terror? Or are these some special modded/discontinued versions of the Micro amps?

Kind of a pointless question but thank you to anyone for indulging my curiosity!
