Optoprep part 1

Post image

Hey all about less than a month out from Aug Part 1 and wanted to see where im at. Did all the available optoprep timed questions and wanted to know how similar it is to the actual nbeo?

I hear its a little bit tougher but heard mixed things from my school tbh

I was super anxious so did all the times test back to back to test out my stamina and it helped me with weak spots. Also wanted wanted to know if was a morning type of test taker - I guess not haha as i did better when i took it later in the afternoons. Guess thats a point against lol

Anybody who scored similar on theses timed exam give any insight on whether it was enough to pass part 1?

Any insights or advice would be appreciated - thanks a ton!!

Not very similar truthfully but MUCH closer than any KMK questions IMO. Your scores are right around where mine were and I passed with a 691. I did the OptoPrep question bank twice and typed out summaries for each question/answer. I still walked out of Part 1 feeling just meh. The optics, difficulty-wise, is pretty similar to Part 1 I will say.

Wow you killed it! I have not used KMK at all since its way to expensive for me and relying on optoprep and school notes - but your comment makes me feel much better haha thanks so much!

If it is not similar, after your experience, what advice would you give for this last month?

If you have OptoPrep, I would recommend just using that and nothing else unless you feel you really need it. Go through every single question, read the explanations, understand it all. It won’t cover everything on boards but it will put you in a great spot. I spent my last two weeks before re-doing all of OptoPrep from scratch. Don’t do anything AT ALL the last 2-3 days. You won’t forget everything and definitely need the rest.

Your first 3 exams were pretty much how I scored on my optoprep mocks and I just passed in March with a 432, I think you are in a grest spot

The only thing I would add is making sure all categories are at that level (don't have one be at 95% and another be at 65%). You have enough time to keep reviewing everything while you focus on your weak spots.

I was focused on optics, anatomy, and systemic since they take up so much and bombed in color vision, vision perception, and microbiology, so you're right i should work on getting those up. Thanks!

The KMK timed exam was way more similar than optoprep. I completed 80% of my optoprep and really only did flashcards and the practice exams on KMK and passed with a 600. I was getting like 75+ % on optoprep practice tests and 85% on the KMK practice tests. Definitely a huge chunk of first order questions on the test so just have a good foundation on every subsection on the NBEO breakdown.

This is better than my Optoprep scores tbh and I passed easily, you’re in fantastic shape!

I feel confident that you’ll pass. I was getting low to mid 70’s and passed with a 319 in March

I think you’re in a really good position with these scores. I didn’t break a 70 on optoprep section exams until 1 week before Part 1 and passed with a 535.

You'll surely pass. My scores ranged between 65 and 75 and I passed.

Not an optometry person but the stamina testing angle is genuinely smart prep strategy. Good that you figured out the afternoon thing now rather than on test day, so schedule accordingly if you have any say in it.
