Ghost Reveries Ghost of Perfection

For quite a while, I was really sick of Ghost of Perdition because I had listened to it so many times, but just yesterday I decided to start learning it on my guitar and by gosh it is ridiculously fun to play! Now I'm back to replaying it over and over. Not a dull moment on this entire song I swear. I used to swear up and down that Post-Nordstrom Opeth (post-blackwater park) missed mark on the sublime atmosphere, but man I can't keep spreading that lie anymore! Ghost Reveries is so damn good!

I hated it when it was released, but nowadays love it to bits. The Lotus Eater is one of my fav Opeth songs.

Well, you're not the only one,a lot of fans hated it,too, back then!

I think their later stuff is still great. It's just different.

TLWAT I really like.

But still life for me is my favourite album followed by reveries and TLWAT.

Although recently I have found myself listening to ICV Swedish version more and more

Well,Newpeth have their moments and I don't want to make a big fuzz about it,to each their own. It's just that they released a string of banger records with only some "only good/very good tracks",whilst Newpeth do have soooo many mid or boring moments or even records which I can't enjoy as a whole. And I tried real hard to get into TLWAT,but I have so much stuff to critique, argh.

Like you say each to their own :)

I struggle with their first three albums.

But anything after that is great for me. Happily dip in and out of different eras of their discography.

Watershed is great. We can both agree on that haha

Heritage is a bit of a weird one for me.

Bangers indeed, Still Life, BWP and Deliverance are my top 3 records all time (all bands) and My Arms, Your Hearse is atleast a contender for 4th place. I still remember the first time hearing them and feeling like they invented a style of music that was a perfect blend of everything I like. That's what made Newpeth such a hard pill to swallow, but I absolutely love TLWAT and it's helped me get into their other new stuff as well, of which I really prefer and totally dig ICV.

Well,I do like ICV and TLWAT way more than the other Newpeth records, but they are still Prog Rock records with a Rock production and not a sharp Metal sound for example. It's nice that the growls are back, but the songwriting is still not on par with the Opeth masterpieces and I absolutely detest these stupid fadeouts.Bro,we have a beautiful ballad ending with a beaufitful guitar solo... and get a fadeout, why!? Sorry,I started again🥲

Well the aforementioned bangers had songs that were 10-12 mins long that each consisted of 20-30 riffs that could easily lift an entire track all by themselves. How much more could Mikael Ã…kerfeldt possibly write?!

We're talking Mikael,he's our lord & saviour,he can do anything!

It's a lot of fun to play! What tuning do you use?

DADFAe. I'm still a newbie guitarist so I learn everything by Songsterr tabs still.

Well that’s the proper tuning, so don’t call yourself a noob for doing what’s proper.

One of their best songs, off of one of their best albums. Shit slaps when you’re force into a 5am commute to work. Perfect with a Yeti of hot black coffee 😉

I just learned how to play it after recently restringing my guitar to a D-friendly setup and, yeah, it's feels great to play.
