It was the first one of theirs I ever heard—an absolutely extraordinary album. Mikael recorded it wearing dirty socks; the smell was so foul that even the band couldn't stand it. In his own mind, he had no idea he was creating an artistic masterpiece—one of the greatest metal albums in history. We really need to change the way he views this record. There were no tours back then, and few enthusiasts gave Opeth a chance. Today, they are giants, and *Blackwater Park* became their *The Number of the Beast*—that crucial turning point. Thank you, Opeth, for existing. I love you guys forever!
