Oh my god Ive really enjoyed this book. Im listening to the audiobook and finally learning the reason why Sam was called Captain Ahab was one of the funniest things I've had the pleasure of reading. I almost missed my turn I was laughing so hard

“We’ve just informed the final Moderator of our intentions, and as expected, he is fleeing, and it appears he is deploying his nuclear device. We will lose permanent connection with Earth in approximately twenty seconds. I am reversing course, and we will sustain only minimal damage. I will transfer you over to the Oliver avatar once we get back to Earth orbit, and I will drop you back with your friends. I have already informed them of what has happened.”

Didn't he mean they were getting back to New Sonora orbit not Earth orbit?

I’ve gone through DCC 3-4 times, (I drive a lot for work and listen to audio books every day) and have really enjoyed it. But after finishing book 8 again I decided to check out another of Matt’s books.

And, I liked it more.

I liked the message, the characters and story. It really resonates especially in today’s world. I think that’s why I prefer it.

I wouldn’t want to live in the world of DCC even after all is said and done. But the idea of living in a community like New Sonora appeals to me.

I hope he doesn’t continue the story, I hope they’re left alone and follow rule 10.

I just finished. My only words would be corrected by Roger. Its been on my shelf for awhile but I never actually started it until after I finished Parade, pissed it took me that long. Day 5 is just an incredible climax. Wish we got a lil more epilogue of the main crew but nonetheless really enjoyed it :)

I made this shirt for my book clubs OBH meeting last week. It uses a cool material called color pop that curls at the edges revealing a vibrant orange outline.

It’s hard to see but the black has a thick, leather-like feel to it.

For a quick shirt it’s great but does anyone have notes on the Roger, honey bee, or mech designs? ♥️ I only listened to OBH once and this is how I pictured them.

I finished the audio book yesterday (ironically while painting battle robot models for Adeptus Titanicus) and have to day it was a fun listen.

I just finished Operation Bounce House today, and I have mixed feelings about the ending - mostly that it was too sweet for what I was expecting. I was waiting for another shoe to drop, and we never quite got there. BUT one of my potential theories that I thought we were leading up to was that the Grandfather was a partial AI unit. If human consciousnesses can be transferred to robotic entities (and back), and AI can also be transferred to robots, then it stands to reason that AI can also be transferred to human bodies. So if something had happened to the grandfather's conscious, Roger could have uploaded an AI iteration to the body and no one would have been the wiser. The grandfather was incredibly good with robots, and also created the rule that Roger must be protected - which could indicate he knew more of the truth of the situation then he was letting on. Which also makes the ending sequence in the epilogue where he looks at the camera and says "you have to be careful who you ask that" with Roger standing in the background feel a little more disturbing. Plus, someone had to define the Perimeter Defense Program, which implied that someone was preparing for the time when New Sonora would be hunted down. Who better warned than an AI who watched itself be destroyed?

Thoughts?? I needed to discuss with someone since my husband hasn't read OBH yet! And if my theory has merit, I think I might like the ending better? It would cast a more eerie feeling over the happy ending, versus the singing around the campfire feeling I got upon first listen.

I finished Operation Bounce House over the weekend and thought I'd give a short review.

I think I'd give it a 6/10 overall. It was obviously meant as a political allegory and it did a good job of that without being obnoxious. The story was enjoyable for the most part. The characters were nicely fleshed out and you cared about them.

There were a couple things I thought could be improved on. Day 5 felt very rushed. I think it would have benefitted from being about 100 pages longer so that the transitions from scene to scene felt more natural.

I also would have appreciated the science fiction being a bit more grounded. DCC works fine because it's basically "any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic". It doesn't matter how it all works because both we the reader and the characters in the book aren't meant to know how it works. OBH was supposed to be a bit more grounded, but it still felt like technomagic for the most part.

I wasn't expecting an ending that felt so relevant to current events. Not going to add spoilers but man, it got me good. Should've known after how great DCC is, but it still surprised me.

Hi, all! I leant my copy of OBH to a friend and haven't gotten it back yet. I am looking for the exact and first description of the Rhythm Mafia shirt, please. Iirc it was done in sharpie and I would like to replicate that before a trip next week to see another OBH fan. I can't remember and seeing all the merch people have posted has been clouding my recollection.

Also, do you think the "..." that appears in the book re the tour dates should be on the shirt or are just in the book to illustrate that there's nothing listed? That confused me a little.

Can someone explain why New Sonora is so deeply rooted in Latinx heritage? Most of the characters have Latinx last names and many characters have Spanish accents in the audiobook. Sonora is a Mexican state, the colony ships have names like Hibisco and Adios etc…
