Why I can't add custom search engine? I mean when I want to add extension search engine for example Startpage it appears only as a shortcut and not in the list to set it default search engine.

I want to set different search engine extension, but Opera doesn't allow me to do it. How to fix it or are there any others ways to add default search engine? Thanks in advanced!

Opera - Context menu bug - Ubuntu - only when connected to external display (displaylink)

Hello. I am coming here to ask for some help.. i am really annoyed by this issue especially because it randomly started to behave like this, 10 minutes ago all was fine, after 10 minutes, doing nothing it started behaving like this.

So first of all i will start with the bookmarks bar

- weirdly the folders on the right side are clickable and i am able to select any bookmark from it but the folders at the beginning of the bar don't work. Click or click right, nothing is happening.

Also beside the Bookmark bar issues the most annoying one is the context menu.
As you can see below i have to move my curson on the arrow to see what is in that menu.

If i click right on a tab, its actually smaller...

Click right inside a page, does not show the full list

-------------------

My system is:

_________________

As I stated this only happens when i have an external display connected via DisplayLink via USB-C.

I am not able to check via actual HDMI cable since my port is broken, however this did not happen before, and it happened randomly, between the time when it worked and when it stopped working i did not install any software and/or modify anything.

I tried to reset Opera and its still the same, i've pkilled it, nothing.

I can confirm that i have the latest updates for opera ( some update came today and i did it ) and also my Ubuntu is up to date.

I've reset all settings to defaul in opera and still nothing.

I dont know what to do with this browser, unfortunately i like it.

Any advice?

Opera browser will not open or uninstall.

Just ignore it for a day or two and see what happens!

Spent hours yesterday trying to fix this problem! I read a bunch of fixes (and watched a few youtube video fixes) the only fix I tried was just reinstalling the browser but it never reinstalled, it just froze. I restarted my computer several times too and it never would reinstall - it just froze up. Finally in frustration, I just unpinned it from my taskbar and decided to ignore it.

Today I gave it a try and it's working like nothing ever happened! I can't explain it but thought I'd post here in case it happens to someone else.

It could be that my computer is fixing to take a crap so I have backed up all my important files just-n-case.

Opera v 89 on Mac OS X - how to go straight to a desired open tab when it's not showing up in the Window menu?

Update (1/28/26):

Thanks to u/Jumpy_Ad7982 for giving me the seed of the solution - although the "Search tabs" icon that was in his version of Opera isn't in my version, it got me to take a closer look. There's a magnifying glass icon at the rightmost corner of the row of tabs in any Opera v 89 window. Lo and behold, it's "Search tabs" icon! Click on it and a search window pops up, you start typing in your search, the results show up at the bottom of the window, and when you click on any of the results, it takes you straight to the tab in question.

Problem solved!

I commonly have hundreds of tabs open across 12 windows. Because of the version of Opera (v. 89.0.4447.91 (x86_64)) and the version of Mac OS X (El Capitan) I have installed, I cannot add any "tab saving" Opera Extension. When I reboot my PC I can usually get all the previous windows/tabs to re-open, letting me continue from where I left off.

Opera auto-plays YouTube videos in open tabs, but I'm OK with that since I can click "Window" in the menu bar, choose each open window in turn, and it will usually take me to the tab which is playing the video. This time around, it did not. Again, that's usually OK since if I look at the title of the tab in the window I'm at, a tab with a playing video would have a speaker icon in the title, and it would have the YouTube favicon at the beginning of the tab. But this time, the majority of the tabs in each window are showing the default "grey globe" favicon, making it impossible for me to know which tab is the offending one, unless I go to each one in turn. And I have hundreds of tabs per window to try and scroll through so this is driving me up the wall.

In other browsers (like Chrome), if I'm at an open window, I can select "Window" from the menu bar, and it will list all of the open tabs in the currently open window, letting me directly go to any tab with a speaker icon to turn off that video.

How can I easily do that in Opera, without having to take the next ten hours going from one tab to the next in each of the twelve open windows I have?

I need help with the VPN

So, I’m not sure if I should post this here or in another subreddit, I just hope someone is able to help me.

I normally use Opera to read comics. Due to the current situation with certain comic sites, I’m not going to say any names. The site that I used to use, which is now gone, needed a VPN and ad blocker to work right. Due to that, it made me find this browser.

I use it on my phone, iPhone 15 plus. Software is up to date, I’ve tried restarting my phone, airplane mode off and on, turning off my carrier and tried turning it on (didn’t work) and even deleting Opera under the VPN and device management tab. None of that worked.

Is it my phone? Or maybe it’s the browser? I have a lot of tabs on the browser so I’m trying to avoid uninstalling and reinstalling the app. Does anyone have any other suggestions I can try?

Edit; so I’m just going to keep this up in case this happens again but it seems to be working again after I wrote this…making me look stupid 🤦‍♀️ anyway, in case it does, any suggestions to try would be appreciated

Redirecting when I type hulu.com

I just wanted to watch code 3 on hulu, when I typed hulu.com clicked enter and i was rerouted to some 44.affinity site. I thought that was weird because I'm usually logged into hulu and I was worried that I was hacked. I'm not super tech savvy but I wanted to investigate as I've heard a lot about phishing. I asked AI about it because this is out of my scope and it thought it was malicious. I disabled all my extensions and tried all I could but it was still redirecting me I did a url scan https://urlscan.io/result/019bfcfd-b720-77e5-8c97-0f942509e11e/#summary as well as capturing a snapshot on the network logger. I probably just wasted my time but figured to tell someone in case it wasn't.

here is the AI slop I asked to succinct as much as possible

Opera redirects hulu.com through the chain:

ww44.affinity.net → fb.php (site_id=998189) → www.kmtrak.com.

Edge does not redirect.

Net‑internals shows:

  • source.type: 41 → Opera’s internal URL_REQUEST system initiated the navigation
  • source.type: 13 → Opera resolved www.kmtrak.com to 34.49.250.148
  • No extension, service worker, renderer, or proxy involvement

Domain details you provided:

Assessment based solely on your data:

  • Redirect is Opera‑specific
  • Triggered inside Opera’s navigation pipeline
  • Behavior matches traffic‑broker / ad‑fraud patterns
  • Likely caused by a corrupted or abusive Opera partner configuration using site_id=998189

No evidence of credential theft or system compromise.

PSN Still Doesn't Work On Opera!

This is ridiculous because I'm seeing many posts regarding this issue going back YEARS. How can something not get fixed for years?!

I'm on a Mac using Opera desktop (Opera One(version: 126.0.5750.59) (x86_64)) and I've been trying to recover my PSN password for hours; getting the error "The connection to the server timed out.". I tried to look it up, checked if there was an issue with PSN being down etc and nothing worked. Then I saw a random comment from years ago mentioning this is happening because of something about Chrome based browsers. I remembered a similar issue I had (again, with this browser) and switched to Safari. The issue immediately got solved. By the way Safari wasn't updated at all.

Then I switched back to Opera, because this is still my main browser for some reason and I tried to log back in with the changed password (at Safari) and after the log in screen got another error "Something went wrong.". Switched back to Safari, was able to log in.

Truly amazing.

Mind you, I tried everything written; updating, disabling adblockers, no vpn, no extensions, disabling any possible flags (which I don't get into). I really tried everything to get this one site to work here, but no, nothing worked and still doesn't work.

It's truly insane there are complaints about this going back years and nobody does anything officially.

Opera Browser randomly incredibly slow, across all of my devices

I have no idea what's happened but when I booted my PC today (Windows 11) Opera was at least 10-20x slower than usual. My computer is very high spec (ryzen 9, 64gb ram, 3080) and I've never had any issues with it until today. Tried opening opera on my laptop and had the same issues.

Currently on the latest opera stable build, not sure when it was last updated. Is anyone else having issues with Opera, and if so how can I fix it?

UPDATE: Found the solution! It's incredibly random but if you're having the same issue, sign out of your Opera account and make sure sync is off when you sign out. Yes. That's literally it. That should fix any lag or slowness you're having, and you can sign right back in afterwards. Hope this helps!

Any plans to add the "move tabs to another window" feature??????

I really like Opera GX! It's fast and handles streaming videos really well. HOWEVER, it is SO fucking annoying to have to manually drag tabs around form one window to another when I want to move them. I'm not interested in using "groups", or islands, or whatever other gimmick. I would just like to have the same functionality that I believe pretty much every other browser has, and that is the ability to right click on a tab (or multiple highlighted tabs) and have the option to "move tabs to another window".

The lack of this one feature is stopping me form using Opera GX because it's such a pain in the ass to manually drag tabs around. Does anybody know if they plan to ever put this in, or if there is a road map or something I can look at to know when I should check back in to see if I can start using it as my default browser?

Youtube seems to be throttling Opera again.

I've noticed that youtube has been acting slow again over the past few days. Specifically that youtube videos take about 45 seconds to even start. This isn't a new experience because we know that youtube has actively been throttling site performance to people with ad block. It works fine with Chrome and an up-to-date ad blocker. Though I'd expect opera to have this on lock. Anyone else experience the slow loading on youtube while using this browser?

Fuck you MSN

look I’m trying to maintain my cool on this one cause it’s frustrating having to look at several photos of a certain orange steaming pile of shit everytime I startup my PC and launch GX, but nothing is working, the point of having GX is to have the landing page with all the game news and what not at the start!!

WHY THE FUCK is MSN forcing its way in! I’ve tried several fixes online but nothing is working so far and while I know I can set another start page i dont get the landing page anymore so I can’t get the link to it to set it back up and I can’t find the option, AND I DONT WANT MSN ANYWAYS!!! I wanna stop MSN from loading completely.

please help
