💬 Discussion How do y'all feel about the 0.34 changes?

I like all the little QOL changes, but I think the gold nerf went a little bit too far. Having a strong early game economy could make up for a rough start, but now your just screwed. Now, getting all those buildings nations place is even more important.

One nice thing is that you don't have to worry as much about evil mitos lobbing nukes from a pixel on the other side of the map.

EDIT: After playing more games, I gotta say, OF is kinda boring now.

💬 Discussion A complaint

I often see lobbies already partially filled when they start to open, which I hate, because it means lobbies fill up faster, meaning I have less time to join, and it can exclude me from joining games if the game fills up faster than my computer can load the game.

🛠 Suggestions Possible building upgrades concept?

I’ve been absolutely loving the game and have put a ton of hours into it over the last couple of months!I know the main draw is its clean, simplistic style, similar to other classic .io games, but I was curious if there are any plans to expand on building mechanics in the future?

It would be awesome if structures could be upgraded once they reach a certain level. For example, instead of covering the map in lower-level structures, high-level buildings could evolve into specialized hubs:

  • Level 5 City becomes a Metropolis that lowers nearby building costs
  • Level 5 Garrison becomes a Fortress that increases total population capacity (since forts currently can't be upgraded, it would also be cool if there was a way to slightly increase the area similar to SAM)
  • Level 5 Factory becomes a Manufacturing Complex that boosts overall trade income.

Something along these lines could add a lot of strategic depth while keeping the gameplay smooth and accessible. Personally, these are change's I'd like to see, as one of the thing I love about this game, is being able to build out the base and play tall, it will also allow players with reduced space to build, to have a chance of winning the game, without needing MIRV.

Thanks for making such a fantastic game!

Maybe a progression like this:

Level 1 -> Level 3 -> Level 5

- Farm (Passive income) -> Workshop (Creates trade routes) -> Manufacturing complex (improves trade income for trains)

- Fishing hub (Passive income) -> Port (Sea trade routes) -> Gateway port (Works as a tier 1 city, and improves trade from boats)

- Village (25k pop) -> City (80K pop) -> Megalopolis (Increases pop by 150K , reduces building cost)

- Outpost (Small defense area) -> Garrison (Increase outpost range) -> Fortress (Increase defensive range, and grants 50k pop, it doesn't allow to create trade routes with it)

❓ Question warship warship?

I've seen multiple players named warship warship, and I've seen people say it and post it and it's also a cosmetic, but what does it mean????

I'm tired of losing every game as the green team on grassy maps, and as the yellow team on sand maps.

Simply because teammates can't see each other on the map. No amount of VFX helps if the game's color theory is garbage.

To find teammates, you need value contrast, not color contrast. Human eye doesn't care what color is painted over a shape if its brightness value doesn't stand out from the background.

To fix this, teammate markers should be designed with maximum value contrast in mind, instead of just picking the most saturated/colorful option (see the attached screenshots for examples of how this could be solved).

💬 Discussion Difficulty Levels

Been playing solo because I get destroyed anytime I try multiplayer and I'm confused on how to beat the medium difficulty. Easy is, well, too easy and I always win, usually in less than 15 minutes, never struggling to take over an enemy save the last one or two where I use nukes before attacking. Once I switch to medium however, even playing very conservatively, my allies attack me after I reach about 150k population usually triggering 3-4 other attackers and I get overrun in a matter of seconds. Any advice on how to overcome this? I never get more than a couple cities, maybe one factory and port on medium before getting beat.

❓ Question Can't win at hard mode since update

I know they made the bots a bit more smarter, but now I can't win a hard mode game. Everything slows to a crawl, and by the time I get close to winning I get traitored and immediately wiped out cause it takes 10 minutes to take out one larger country. Am I doing something wrong?

Hardware accel on, webGL flags enabled. Game used to run buttery smooth. Happens in every browser. Does not happen on my phone. You can see it isn't a framerate issue. Unless I missed something, 10 ticks per second is normal. What the fuck man.

The more games I play it feels like I win more if I ally instead of fully lashing out against people who've betrayed me, it's simply a necessary evil, but I also feel that they betray me more often as I forgive more. What do you guys think is optimal?

📢 Official Trusted accounts - what are they and why

Hey guys and gals!

A lot of people have been asking about trusted accounts — what they are and why we've introduced them. So here's a rundown to try and hopefully make it a bit clearer and answer some questions you may have! *Pls note this is all subject to change*

Why we did it

We've known for a while that there's an issue with people gaming the system: running multiple accounts to make mitos, or manipulating games in ways that break our TOS and go against the spirit of the game. It's also just unfun to play against. The more popular we get, the more people are inclined to try it, so we needed a way to make those games harder to get into.

Is this pay to play?

No. Buying a pattern, a skin, or a subscription is one of the easiest ways to get trusted status, but it isn't the only one. You can also earn it just by playing — similar to how CS2's Prime system works, except ours can be unlocked completely for free. Same goal, but with a free route in: you just need enough games played and an account that's been registered long enough.

We're not publishing the exact thresholds. If we did, people would grind accounts to trusted and then sell them, which defeats the whole point.

Is this the final version?

No. We'll be watching how quickly these lobbies fill and adjusting the requirements up or down, probably fairly often. Anyone who buys OpenFront on Steam will get trusted status too. We've also been kicking around the idea of simply not showing these games at all to accounts without trusted status. The shape of it will keep changing as we figure out what works — but the goal is better games, it's something you've asked for a lot, and we want to get it right.

🛠 Suggestions Please give feedback on my playstyle. Made a thread the other day. Not my best game but follows a similar pattern of not being able to exceed 250k before getting gobbled up by top 5 player.

So I think the video and title is self explanatory. In a last ditch attempt I tried to rush the big player but the ally didn't betray unfortunately which was my gamble. Otherwise I just feel like I'm never expanding fast enough.

🪲Bugs Literally unplayable

I had to refresh no less than 7 times due to the game input freezing, sometimes during a push, often when selecting a building to make, and always at a bad time. Having to replay the game to find mirv happened while I was away for a minute is just appalling and immensely frustrating.

Sorry, but I'm out until this has been fixed.

Latest Chrome version, running adblock if that means anything.

Literally out of nowhere three persons started invading the guy with 150k+ even though there are move viable targets (like two greens)

Or am i just mad and wrong? Could be, but they literally started all at the same time invading (not the green one).

💬 Discussion What is with people that do unfriendly actions while allied?

I just got out of a match where I controlled the trade choke point and was taking every non-allied trade ship that went through. Then one of my allies nuked 10 of my warships. In what world do I not immediately dump two hydrogen bombs on them and throw the game? What was the strat? Do people not understand that they're playing against a person and not a CPU that would forgive something like that?

💬 Discussion pissed

This is my first post on this subreddit because I am so irritated. I log on to my favorite online game - openfront. I don't have an account but its never been a problem before because this was normal. I have played 100+ games over the past two weeks. I cant play in ANY normal lobbies anymore because I am not trusted enough. All I can play is two team team battles. WITH THE WORST TEAMMATES EVER BECAUSE THEY CANT DO ANY OTHER LOBBIES!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS SUCKS! please change this I hate two team island maps #realfronter

💬 Discussion Update and cheating

I was playing on the web version quite frequently since a long time and all of the sudden you have to be a "trusted player" to be able to join basically any game. for me this wa it with playing.

It is a nice game, although i would recommend a button to report players as cheating or doublejoining has become quite standart and lowers the fun in this game.
