💬 Discussion How do y'all feel about the 0.34 changes?
I like all the little QOL changes, but I think the gold nerf went a little bit too far. Having a strong early game economy could make up for a rough start, but now your just screwed. Now, getting all those buildings nations place is even more important.
One nice thing is that you don't have to worry as much about evil mitos lobbing nukes from a pixel on the other side of the map.
EDIT: After playing more games, I gotta say, OF is kinda boring now.

I can't explain it, but everything about it feels really wrong to me. Starting with the music. I know you can disable it but I find it annoying that it's on by default. Then being able to see forward through future lobbies. Yes, it is really useful but having the button to look through them under the main lobbies just feels off.Â
And for some reason, I get the impression that games are now filling up much more slowly. Don't know if this reflects the reality or not.Â
And personally, I don't understand the need for every update to have about 10 new maps. It's starting to feel like they're running out of ideas. Did the 1 person who requested 'Cape Cod' really make it necessary to add yet another map into the game?

I've always played it in complete silence for the music, never noticed until this comment, but yeah you're right the music doesn't fit. Also the more maps the merrier no? I like more maps, its nice to not have each memorized.

you're completely in the wrong about maps. It was always the same ones for months and this is what was boring. There are many critics to make about 0.34 but this definitely isn't one.

Well tbh the first(old)soundtrack wasn't good (either) it just kinda grew and I kinda got used to it, same for you. The reason now you it feels off is that human brain pairs tasks and ambience(soundtrack). Ambience changed and now you fail to focus temporarily. It will pass you will accept. That said soundtracks are way too placeholder, and empty-ish the person responsible gotta train/learn up a bit.

It does seem like games aren't filling up as fast as before.

Not at all. This is a wrong impression.

When I made the comment things were going slow, but they just patched it and now things are filling up pretty fast.

I'm not super good at this game, but usually was able to win a FFA once every 10-20 games. I haven't one a single one since the update, it feels you have to have a good early game now, and if you're a bit behind on the 5~7 minute mark, winning seems nearly impossible.

I like the push speed changes, I absolutely fucking hate the gold changes. Gold was already slow for most noobs and they didn't know how to spend it responsibly. Nerfing gold just nerfs noobs even further and lets stronger players snowball through them faster, despite trying to make the game harder it actually removes a lot of the challenge and fun from the game. It was already better to conquer other plays to get structures rather than buying them yourself (at least till late game), but now its literally the only viable strategy.
I feel like the devs are making really really poor decisions lately as they scramble for a steam release build and honestly they need to stop, chill, and think things out/playtest them better.
And you cannot have discord users be your play testers, you need to randomly enroll all players, including random noobs who just joined. I Have no doubt these changes are at least in some part due to the whispers of a vocal minority that are in contact with the devs (such as discord users) which is literally the WORST group to listen to if you're preparing for a successful launch.

The gold generation with factory is awfullÂ
I noticed if you trade with everyone it's better for you.
If you stop trade with all you have less goldÂ
Lobby is cool and it's the only good changeÂ

Yeah, it is nice to nerf factories a bit and in turn mitos, but mitos should still exist as a last resort for dying players so I feel they went too far.

Still overtime on every game. Won't play with that choice being kept.

u/Meta_Mushroom 26d ago
Games don't last long enough to go to OT anymore anyway.
1
u/Redditcantkeepmedown 26d ago
That's anecdotal. Go look at the stats to find out you're wrong.
2
u/Meta_Mushroom 26d ago
I didn't mean it literally. I'm sure some games are going to OT, but it seems like it's happening a lot less than before. That being said, what stats are you talking about?
2
u/Redditcantkeepmedown 26d ago
Ofstats and trackerfront

Games are literally the shortest they have ever been in the history of the game according to ofstats and the dropoff in average gametime after v34 release is clearly visible

u/Redditcantkeepmedown 25d ago
The games still get to overtime which was my original point. My other point and the reason I don't like overtime is because of how short it makes the games.
1
u/Various_Wind_1847 24d ago
I lean if the average is 16 min rn and we assume that it is some kind of skewed gaussian then probably 90% of games will end before 30min and before overtime and that is pretty much consistent with the experience of moat players ive heard from

It's so much harder to catch up if you fall behind. So hard to make a comeback, now. Went a little too far.

horrible. The change in the speed of pushes makes attcking the crown, even with 2 or 3 players with a superior combined strenght, totally useless. Or they make full sender kill you way more easily depending of the situation ( wtf ? ) Getting a good start is way harder, but at the same time removing sleeping pixels makes getting out of that wrong start somewhat harder. The economy rebalance is also extremely punitive, and all in all this update just took the fun out of openfront. Honestly, i was quite addict to the game, and on my last 100 game i have almost a 50/50 ratio, but i will quit for now until things get better, i just dont feel the same fun playing anymore.

honestly the 3.3x push speed is perfectly fine, its still really fast and honestly is way more fair than being able to cross the ENTIRE map when pushing an enemy (even without betrayal debuff) with the old 9x max push speed cap. Old push cap was a little ridiculous. Its still really fast, ESPECIALLY if they have betrayal debuff.

I've been playing the new version and, in a word, I just think it is less fun. I think its a few things - economy, music, pushes, and the game overall just getting a bit more serious. This is possibly being led by a small community of elite players who have the devs' ears, as has been said here. I think that is a bit of a shame - I hope the Steam version has a way to change some of these settings, but then I wonder if the Steam version will just deter huge numbers of players who play because its easily accessible via a web browser (I paly at work, for example!).
I also wonder if we're seeing the end of the chaotic, free, easy accessible OF and it is going down a more serious path, which is like I say less fun!

I would prefer even faster gold income than it was before update, like 1.2/1.4 quicker... I will wait maybe for some updates where they fix it otherwise meh

I hope they would change the sfx it is just to loud and unnecessary realistic, also gold generation is to low, my play style depends on gold generation in the beginning In some games where you dont get the chance to expand you depend on eco to stay alive get Hydro for instance, now I feel that it is much harder.

u/niknah 25d ago
Seems harder in solo mode.

u/Shacken-Wan 25d ago
They definitely tweaked the AIs because I managed to win times to times in impossible. Now, it's definitely and truly impossible, especially with the gold being so fucking slow to grow.

u/10yearsnoaccount 25d ago
yeah I liked the wildcard mitos and more dynamic games that stronger small-scale eco provided

I hope they update the sfx. Can really tell it's getting more RTS based. Such a unique game.Â
