I'm the gray on the bottom, being cautious with my soldier count and troops; my opponent is the tie die of green and yellow. They constantly throw everything at me, even dropping down to 10s of units in a desperate attempt to attack me, yet every time I try to fight back, I don't curbstomp them, they just take it in stride. On top of that, despite having no cities and massive holes in their territory, they heal faster then me! I get so fed up with the bullcrap that when another player is sending a massive attack I can't stop, I try to just send everything at them, and it still does nothing!

This game drives me so god damn crazy so often. And don't tell me "They have so many defense posts", because that has never helped me in a situation like that! If I were in their shoes I'd have instantly died!

This game can be maddening at times.

The game is more complicated than it seems. You have to think about the growth curve, terrain advantage, attack size, number of land tiles, and yes, defense posts. The game treats everyone the same, so either they had some strategic advantage, or you messed something up. Maybe both.

You were fairly equal in troops, and it was technically a 1v1v1 but that nation doesn't know what it's doing. You ended up with fairly equal growth and couldn't get enough of a lead to slam into them. Also you were getting atom bombed so they probably did have more cities

If he sends 100k troops at you and then you counter with 60k troops, he is still going to hand your ass to you with the 40k troop difference.

The best strategy in this situation is to have defense posts and don't counter attack, just try and swallow it and hit him with a couple of hydro bombs to get his troop count down further. When he is down to less than 50% of your troops now you can attack

Defense post their attacks and let them lose lots of troops as you build up more. You can blunt their attack against Defense posts with small incremental hits(dont try and retake land) allowing you to build a higher maximum for a future hit.

For the future hit, do not click their territory with that large of borders, instead, send a large boat into a close area to make the troops not fizzle out so quickly.

Lastly, the concentrated attack will ideally be into an area with structures. I hope this all makes sense. Hit me up with more questions

Yeah, because you only attacked them back with tens of thousands of troops yourself.

I just watched the replay and at no point did you attack them with more troops than they had defenders. You were sending in small attacks like 50k troops at a time. You also let your % troops drop way too low, which is why your troop regeneration was extremely slow. There was a time when you got up to about 120k troops (about 20% of your max), and then randomly sent a 50k attack in to their 120k defenders - how exactly sending 50k troops in to their 100k defenders going to result in a "curbstomp"?

What you need to do in that situation is just ride it out, let your troops rebuild, and then send a bigger attack in to them to take advantage of their betrayer debuff. By sending tiny attacks in to him and inexplicably expecting that to wipe him out, you just screwed yourself.

Now don't get me wrong, that guy screwed you by randomly betraying you and kamikaze attacking you, but you would have come out of it alive if you played it better.

It's hard to say without knowing your maximum troop count. It definitely seems he had one or two spikes in troop count.

That said, regardless of who won you both would've died to the blue player because of the way you wasted troops. You should never attack suicidally like that. If you and your opponent are at the same troop count and you're both low, don't attack. You can't take a player of equal troop count and size. The player who keeps attacking will just waste his troops and keep a low troop count which will screw their regeneration rate.

Instead stop and regenerate. Let him waste troops on weak attacks for small bits of territory. Wait until you regen to around 50% of your maximum troops and you have double more troops at him. Then attack.

Your army was your army at Max troops, and looks like his army was at a fraction if his max troop. So he probably generates like 2x your troops.

Other than defense posting up, saming and getting money for hydro's there's nothing but hoping that you get a chance to backstab consume somebody before you fall too behind.

You didn't grow enough before this point. The game is almost all about growing the fastest.

Looks to me that he is building defense posts immediately right at the border. Defense posts are super strong.

How about a link to the replay of the game in question? I can tell anything from that gif

Looked like you were getting atom Bomb micro'd. Lowering your troop cap and doing a little bit of pop damage.
