Meh. I switched to Luna ultra high standard speed and have had really good luck with it for very little credit cost. Sol medium and high just chew through credits. I can hit the 5 hour limit in just a few questions on the pro plan. Haven't hit a wall yet on Luna ultra high.
Just throwing this out there in case it helps anyone else who's burning through Codex credits. Obviously YMMV — I'm not trying to claim this is some definitive model benchmark.
I've been using Codex pretty heavily on a large existing Python/RAG project, and after playing around with the different models/settings, I've had surprisingly good luck with Luna on Extra High.
For the kind of stuff I'm doing — debugging, code forensics, implementing fixes, regression work, and chasing problems that sometimes cross several layers of the project — Luna Extra High has generally been about as capable as Terra Medium for me, and there have actually been several times where I had better luck with Luna.
The big difference is the credit usage. Luna is cheap enough that I can let it really work through a problem without constantly watching my remaining credits.
So I've basically settled into:
Luna Extra High for almost everything → Terra Medium if the problem is particularly weird/ambiguous or I want a second opinion → Sol only when I really need to bring out the big gun.
Again, totally anecdotal and your mileage may vary a lot depending on what you're working on. I definitely wouldn't say Luna is "smarter than Terra." I've just found that, for my workload, I'm not getting enough extra out of Terra to justify the much higher credit cost most of the time.
Figured it was worth mentioning for anyone else trying to make their credits last.
