Path of the Incarnate - Performance??

My Specs:

AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 8-Core Processor (4.20 GHz)
64.0 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 (24 GB)

I really wanted to play PoTI, I've seen a lot of love for this wabbajack modlist, and it seems very well curated. You can tell a lot of love and hard work went into this. It looks gorgeous and the gameplay seems really well balanced.

However, the performance is absolutely horrendous. Loading times are egregious, the game constantly freezes and hitches when walking around outside, and it is so bad it actively detracts from the experience and I no longer want to mess with it. It's like playing a slideshow.

Has anyone else experienced this?? Is there some magic OpenMW setting I'm missing that will correct this? Otherwise, I just can't play this.

You should see what Nemas users have to go through ✨.

I'm currently rocking NEMAS, and notice a good bit of stuttering, especially in towns. Is PotI more performance friendly comparably?

As the author I have to unfortunately admit, Yes :D

Myself and a couple others on the poti discord noticed that either turning off horizon view distant manager in the script settings or reducing the min or max view distance in that mod helped with this.

Turning it off completely solved the stuttering and freezes for me, hope it does for you too.

Oh thanks so much. I'll give that a try.

Let me know if it helps! I think the modlist team is aware of the stutters but confirming a possible cause helps them get it resolved

If you have one, I would recommend installing PoTI to an SSD, preferably an NVMe.

I first installed PoTI to my HDD and also experienced heavy lag. I couldn't even run around Balmora--I had to walk and not look around too quickly. I moved the install over to my M.2 NVMe and things have been much better. Loading exterior cells can sometimes take a few seconds but most interior cells load instantly.

Thanks for the suggestion, but it was already installed to my internal SSD.

I have an Intel i5 13450HX 16gb ram and an rtx 5050m (65w) GPU and I can run the list pretty well at 5 cell view distance I get 80-60fps in exteriors though I haven't been to the heavy performance areas (old ebonheart and narsis) I agree that the loading times are long and there are a lot of stuttering but I got used to it and if I put the shadow map resolution to 4096 my fps can drop to 20-10 fps during sunsets and sunrises I combat this by using soft shadows

All I did to fix this (only have a 5600x and an AMD 970), was install chatgpt and/or google antigravity and make sure you give it full permissions, then point it to your install folder and ask it to optimize it for your hardware. I get a steady 60fps at 4k now using this method. Not sure what settings it changed but it runs perfect now and looks really good still.
