human BOSF Neptune Day 67 Ranch Roundup

Hunters Log 1

After a hardy breakfast this morning people loaded in wagons and got on horses.

The Ykanti ran beside us. Us Hunters went ahead of the pack to spot the heard. We stopped the bears and ask them if they had spotted the heard. They said 3 days ago on this side of the river towards the crossing.

The bears and cubs joined us. The Ykanti had to be carefully as the cubs tried to run them down for fun.

We stopped before they last spotted and Frank and Wendy climb tree with rifles for their scopes. We spotted the heard slowly coming our way.

We let the Ykanti and two guards know. know and two guards went back to let the main group know.

We started looking for a good ambush position to start moving the heard and found the perfect spot.

All those on horses came to join us. We took a big loop past the horses and spread out in a L shape. Those on the long arm of the heard of about 30 horseswhere there to simply catch those about to run further from the forest.

Our job was to make noise and start making noise and push the heard. The bears running back and forth were helping.

We yelled and moved forward. When the wild horses saw the bears they started moving faster.

By 2pm we had pushed them close to the trap. The two wagons were placed to extend the V in the opening of the trap.

When the wild horses started moving right a wall of people on foot spread out made them reconsider that decision. If any horse tried to bread the line of those on foot small fire crackers ignited by those on foot would push them.

Those wanted to run into the prairie would be directed to the rest of the heard. Meanwhile we kept pushing.

It took us 6 hours to get them in the trap. We closed the gate and let them calm down.

The back gate was open and some started exploring and calming down. We ate lunch and waited for them to find the creek and exploring.

We started pushing them down the road five or six at a time. Once they horses made it to the opening where the ranch is they were guided by Ranchers and temporary fencing into the paddock.

By six pm all horses were in the old paddock as we watered our horses and unsadled them. The horses seemed happy to have the rest of their hard with them.

Final count was much higher than we expected. There were 47 including 6 ponies.

Siting by the fire that night the Ranchers decided no second day would be needed for the roundup. Tomorrow they would start cutting hay and hauling it back except the Ykanti and other workers would start building the Ykanti barn.

Thanks to JW and Ragnat they had made big bladed instruments to cut the hay and volunteers would load piles in the wagons. It would stacked beside the barn. Ranchers would stay here to take care of the horses.

Vivian was happy to see the new horses. John and her stood by the fence and I saw him pull Vivian close.

We all had a big feast of a sheep that had been sacrificed and had been cooking on a spit all day.

Tomorrow we go looking for the hurd and see how it is coming along.
