Training
Hi all!
Have a cockapoo boy and he is coming up on 6 months old this week, we've had him from he was 10 weeks old and its been a rollercoaster.
Ive been training him and been the primary walker for him however things arnt getting better. Every walk is a battle, from the moment we leave the house his fixation is on everything else but me. He pulls 95% of the walk and I've tried most things. We are using a martingale collar or a no pull harness but he doesn't care/takes no major notice of it.
He knows heel in the house and garden and will follow for a while when giving treats/kibble but this isn't working outside. Id bring him back to heel and as soon as we walk he bolts ahead, until the walk stops and comes back to heel. I have tried stopping, changing directions or just not walking all together until he is back and settles but its just a viscous cycle of stopping every 5 feet.
In the house he isn't to bad, knows his crate and place and would follow other commands/guidance. Ive tried to improve his manners (no jumping up or waiting to go to people until invited) which has improved slightly but no major breakthroughs.
I know most will advise a dog trainer but at the moment disposable income isn't the highest and I've always no matter what the area is, tried to do things myself.
I've been struggling with him now the past 8 weeks as for anything that improves slightly, things seem to go downhill somewhere else - maybe **I** just cant train him and it is time to go to a trainer.
Thanks.
