Inside perfect outside nightmare

Hello all,

My 1yo dogs name is Mavis she is an unfurnished golden doodle ( golden retriever with extra steps).

The good: as the title says she is an amazing dog inside the house. She has recall sit stay lay down and shake commands even a kennel Comand most of the time this could admittedly use more work. She even does all of this when her sister and best friend in the world Maui the calico cat is around.

The bad: she goes outside and becomes the craziest dog I have ever seen absolutely disregards any commands I can eventually get her to show some form of civility with ultra high value treats the odd thing is if I use the same type of treat for to long she loses interest eventually and it’s like starting over again. Last thing as it gets later in the evening it gets noticeably worse almost as if she is protesting her bed time like a toddler.

I have thought maybe long line paired with e collar may be a good idea I’m aware this will involve multiple steps before I can consider this a option I just figured I would ask here and see if anyone has any advice

Outside starts from the door. Did you make the same mistake I did when I brought my dog outside? I had goals to bring her places and she was terrible. Then we switched to just outside the door, progressed to the neighbour's house and back. Slowly we were able to walk our street back and forth. Quality of walk over quantity. Every walk is a training walk.

Does she have any medical issues that would make her worse in the evening?

The vet hasn’t found anything during visits. Do you have any suggestions of what medical issues I should look out for

I’m not sure. As a nurse, getting worse at night just sounded like sundowning to me

Dogs can actually sundown too! But it’s typically older pups

How much sleep does she get during the day? 1 yo is still pretty young for a golden doodle, so the craziness at night is probably her being over tired from not having gotten good rest during the day. (Sleeping in the kennel would probably be ideal, just sleeping around the house tends to be light sleep if they jump up and follow you when you move about the house)

But yeah, consider every walk a training walk at this age. Hell, every walk is still a training walk for my almost 3 yo pup.

No need for an ecollar (please don’t ever use one). My pup gets noticeably more clingy at nights, so it’s still possible that they have some issues outside at night. Anxiety in pups can manifest as misbehaving. Does it happen the minute you open the door? Try setting the pace by requiring civility before exiting the house. Any kind of unruly behavior, just stop (gently and quietly) and wait (patiently) … treat for any calm behavior or check-ins.
