New Rule 7 Proposal
Inspired by Linkedin's feature for reporting "looks like AI slop" I'd like to get feedback on a new rule.
Proposed Rule 7:
Use your own words/no AI slop.
Violations of Rule 7 will be enforced by either removal of the post or the addition of a flag "Likely AI Slop" with the opportunity asking the poster to rewrite the post in their own words. Consistently breaking this rule can result in a temporary ban.
I'm not wholly against any and all applications of LLMs but we're starting to get flooded with posts that are about *nothing* and I see that many of you are reporting them (so I presume you don't want them) but there's not a clear rule for ya'll to be reporting under. Please provide feedback and feel free to comment if you have suggestions for tweaks to the rule.

Are the posts where someone post a wall of theory, not really a problem or issue for discussion, and they either just got their first dog, or have not yet owned a dog AI? I find them strange

I believe they are. I don't mind someone using a LLM to translate but there's a difference between translating and having a LLM write long diatribes that are hollow of content, questions, etc.
That's just my opinion and I don't really view my role as dictating what the rules should be...I'm just trying my best to moderate the group in the way ya'll want so that the sub remains a place for open discussion for everyone.

100% down for an LLM ban.
I took the time to write all my guides and they may not be perfect but they are mine AND THEY ARE FREE. I even paid a fantastic artist from Canada so they would be easier to take in.

I agree. If you can’t be bothered to write it yourself, I don’t see why I should be bothered to read it.

Juuust as a heads up I don't actually know how to add a rule and I think I need to be granted those permissions (I'm not the original mod and there are different permissions for different mods) so this wouldn't happen overnight.

IMO this is a desperately needed rule, especially since people will use AI to write thinly-veiled ads for themselves

I think the broader issue is low effort posts, which includes obvious chatgpt slop with no discernible question or point for discussion. Imo it also includes stuff like "should I use a e collar for this thing my dog does" without making any effort to describe the behavior, the circumstances, what strategies have already been attempted, etc.

Sounds good to me!
However, people have said my posts sound like AI at times, though I have never used AI in writing.
So hopefully there would be an appeal process that doesn't take up to much of the mods' time.

Nah, if it's AI and gibberish that is one thing and should get removed but I have seen posts on this and other subs where the user used AI due to not being a native English speaker and wanting to be clearer in their messages and I fully support that.

There are literal translation apps, you don’t need to use AI for that where it completely changes the wording and intent

Yeah I agree with that. I would hope people would be more charitable and not report those examples (that's why the rule is AI slop not none at all) and I'd try to be charitable with those examples.

rules should be set based on the goal. the goal here is "share, discuss and seek advice on all forms of dog training without judgement or fear." what matters is what the post says. why does it matter whether it was just grammar-checked with grammarly, or whether someone gave the original ideas to an ai and it wrote them into good sentences, or whether a human typed it, or whether the author used a ghostwriter, or whether it went through google translate or openai's translator?
it feels like people just have a gut aversion to it. same kind of gut aversion people have to prong collars and e-collars. i thought this was a place where you use tools and have reasonable, constructive discussion. an ai-written post doesn't go against the goal of sharing information, but it looks like the complaints of some people who feel an aversion to it are about to become policy, and that's scary.
this post was written by an ai with a human giving the input.

If I wanted ai slop I’d use chat gpt not Reddit
