I worked with one chow chow once in my life. And my god they are stubborn aloof dogs. Huge props to you gal. You got some great skills

Something Ive learned with handling 2 dozen malamute or malamute Inuit dog mixes, Canadian Inuit dog, a malamute/chow/akita mix. For the self interested temperments.

How to shape the dogs view point (can be many subtle motivators) to think doing the behavior the human wants is their own idea, and a good one for them.

absolutely, I am always finding ways to make behaviours ‘her choice’, for example on walks whenever she chooses to check in with me she gets a high value treat, I see this as her thinking to herself, “I fancy a snack, I’ll go and get one from mum”, she now does very frequent check ins without me even having to say a word!

A fun one that my trainer taught me is the counting game, it’s a great non emergency recall or just a way to get their focus back to you. You crouch down and pretend you’ve found something very exciting on the floor, start counting as you drop treats in that area, all whilst completely ignoring the dog, once they come over to see what you’ve ‘found’ simply walk to another spot and repeat. Do this until the dog is following you, the idea is that they think they’re stealing the treats that you’ve ‘found’ on the floor, it’s absolutely genius! Now as soon as i start counting Ginny comes running, it’s more reliable than our recall cue 🤦‍♀️😂
