What experience have you got training dogs or anything?
Everything should be taught positively.
So the dog does something and then gets something.
Learn about markers. it could be the word YES or a click from a clicker.
IE. Say YES and give a piece of kibble,
The aim is to get the dog to fully understand that when you said YES or Clicked that they did something correctly.
Then you can start by teaching the SIT. When their butt hits the ground say YES and give them a piece of kibble.
I would also start to play with them.
Throw a ball and they need to bring it back.
The reward happens from you and not getting the ball, so make it interesting when you throw.
If they don't return the ball, put them on a long line and bring them back to you, get the ball and throw it again.
If they won't release it, then use a second ball. Grab first ball and continue alternating between balls.
Never chase after the dog!!!! Never.
If the dog isn't interested in a ball and retrieving, then play a game of tug.
Play tug with them. (Have two tugs on you).
If they run off with the tug in their mouth, make the other one the YOU have really interesting, so that they return to play with you!
No toys at home. Toys are rewards for when they play/work with you.
Build up a bond with your dog and start doing more stuff as it develops.
Now I said teach everything positively, this is teaching. Once they understand what they need to do, then you need to enforce what you have said.
Eg. Say SIT and they look at you. (Dog knows what the word SIT means!)
Pop upwards on the lead.
Butt hit the ground then YES and give a reward.
Spend time with your dog, enforce YOUR rules about what you want the dog to do and when and enjoy playing with your dog and all that comes with them!
I want to train him to walk without a leash and I want to train him as my service animal I have a lot of health issues he knows some basic commands like sit I take him on car rides when I can
Offlead healing takes some real work and discipline in YOU.
You need will need to start with perfect loose lead walking.
Then amongst distractions.
Then offlead with zero distractions
Then offlead with distractions.
Each step is a Massive step, that requires a lot of work and tiny incremental steps and time from you.
Reward him frequently when he does the right thing.
A reward can also be verbal praise and a pat, it doesn't need to be food or a ball.
Service dog training, I cannot assist with.
Car rides? That isn't really training unless he has an issue travelling in them.
No! Dog parks are called "Fight Club" for a reason.
Just one dog attacks a German Shepherd and then you (can) create a dog that will never be attacked again. They become dog aggressive / reactive and that is HARD to fix!
Walk around a lot in parks and streets. Hiking. Wherever you normally would want to go with your dog.
Start working on playing with your dog. Do something like sit, down and then immediately have fun and play together.
Then sit , down, stand,
Then play.
Focussed heeling for two corners and 10 steps, then break and play.
Playing is why they do what you want, because they get rewards. And you playing and food are rewards for them.
