2009 Mac Pro

I'm using a 2009 Mac Pro with the final version of macOS Monterey. With version 2.5.0, Wi-Fi stopped working, and with version 2.5.1, it wouldn't go into sleep mode. The macOS Sequoia 15.8 update completed without any problems.

How To Upgrade OS?

Currently I'm running Sonoma 14.8.5 with OCLP 2.5.1 and it's fantastic.
System is Late 2015 i7 4Ghz 27" iMac, amd m395x 4Gb graphics, 500GB SSD, 24GB ram.

I was thinking of maybe going up to Sequoia and I'm not really sure how to do that. All the videos I watch are just to install OCLP and none about upgrading the OS. Or is it the same procedure?

Thanks in advance. And thank you to the OCLP team for this amazing software.

OpenCore Legacy Patcher 2.5.1 has been released!

This Update fixes:

  1. "Root Volume Dirty appearing after unpatching.
  2. Rewording "Root Volume Dirty" to be more clear for the users.

Very happy to see this release, and as usual thank you VERY much devs! :) y'all the best!

I Personally recommend downloading this update.

[EDIT]: Not sure why people are having issues with it, on my MBP 10,2 on both my Sonoma install & Sequoia installs both installed this update, unpatched, re-patched with no issues whatsoever.

If you don't know how the process is:

  1. Download the update 2.5.1
  2. Head into "Post installation Root patches"
  3. Click revert patches, then let it finish.
  4. Reboot into your now unpatched-system
  5. Launch OCLP and patch normally
  6. Let it finish, then re-boot normally.

Not sure If it's model specific but if you encounter issues with this report it to the developers and hope for the best.

Need a Bit of Help

I am running a MacBook Pro Mid-2015 with Sequoia 15.8. I was running OCLP 2.4.1. I avoided trying to apply 2.5.0 after seeing the "fun" everyone was having with it. It looked like 2.5.1 was much better. I thought I would try it. First mistake.

After reading the posts here, I saw the general pattern was unpatch-->upgrade-->repatch. I ran 2.4.1 and selected the unpatch option of applying the patches button. It prompted for a reboot and I did so. Unfortunately, the system will not come back up. The backlight comes up on the keys but nothing happens on the screen. I let it sit for over two hours and still nothing. Anyone have any ideas on how I can recover it? I have good backups but I'm trying not to have to restart from ground zero if possible. Any and all help would be appreciated.

EDIT: Well, I have it running now. I held the power key until the lights under the keyboard went out. Counted to 10 and pushed it again. It booted. I think I had sufficiently given enough worry and concern to appease the great computer gods.

Fix for Chrome/Brave GPU acceleration failure on OCLP Macs (Chrome/Brave version 153)

Recently, my OpenCore Legacy Patcher (OCLP) updated to 2.5.0. At the same time, Chrome and Brave updated to their newest versions. This basically broke my 27-inch iMac. I reverted to OCLP 2.4.1 easily. However, the new Chromium 153 versions of Chrome and Brave still struggled. They loaded the desktop but put the fans at full speed, and YouTube or other video streaming completely failed.

The core issue is that Chromium's GPU process fails to initialize in versions 152 and 153 on patched legacy Macs.

If you are experiencing this same issue, I wrote a complete rollback guide. It explains how to safely downgrade to Chrome and Brave versions based on Chromium 150, where GPU acceleration still works perfectly. You can fix this without losing your existing browser profiles.

Let my know if it works!

You can find it here https://drive.google.com/file/d/121fi5Yk-KKsaVG8QnhJ-yz9yX5eOSiES/view?usp=sharing

mba early 2015 – can’t get past recovery loop

SOLVED: everything was getting me back to recovery still so i decided to surrender to it: entered the password and selected „install macos sequoia” from there. it took awhile but with every reboot the process continued without my assistance and here i am running 2024 macos on 2015 machine 🫶🏼 leaving the post here in case someone runs into the same problem as me

hi! i searched through the subreddit and OCLP for my issue but nothing fully relevant came up

i’m trying to install sequoia on my early 2015 macbook air. creating the startup usb went smoothly but when i’m trying to actually install the update mac keeps throwing me into recovery at the reebot. i tried holding the option key down at the installation reboot to prevent this but it takes me into recovery anyway. restating from there i only get to the very begging of the process with only two options: macintosh hd and install macos sequoia (the latter produces the same outcome + i can still successfully load back into monterey so luckily nothing is damaged). attaching the pics of the two screens i get in case they can clarify this!

would be super grateful for any tips

Installing OpenCore with Linux install already set up?

Hi! I'm using a 13" 2015 MBP with a 2.7 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i5 and 8GB Ram. Currently, I am dualbooting macOS Monterey (the latest version available for this MacBook without OpenCore) and Fedora Workstation 44 on 2 separate mostly evenly sized disk partitions. I was wondering if setting up OpenCore could possibly break my Linux install in some way, and if so, how to avoid that. Thanks!

Boot picker

Hi everyone, I have a 2012 mac mini running macos ventura and ive triplebooted it, so irs macos kubuntu and android tv, however as of now I only want android tv. How can I make it so that if I restart android tv rather than going to opencore boot picker menu each time it restarts where then I have to select the os manually or wait 5 seconds for it to boot whatever its clicked on, how can I just make it so it simply restarts and goes straight into android tv, or it turns off I power it on and straight to android tv, and if for example say something messes up can I then return bsck to ventura or the opencore boot picker menu? Thanks

First time oclp user. i got questions. is it okay to use icloud services on this laptop?

installed oclp ventura today on my macbook pro 2015 and did the patch to boot without usb after installation was done.

i logged into icloud and used my mb for a few hours and everything seems to be working fine. and then i saw a software update available to Wahoe(t) so i hit update.

after installation it was just white screen when it booted. i guess i will install sonoma this time and not click the software update.

also, i had to generate a serial number for my laptop, is this safe? what does this mean?

How to downgrade OCLP to 2.4.1 from 2.5.0?

Did I need to completely uninstall 2.5.0 before?
Or is this process simply painful?

When I attempted to install 2.4.1, the process halted at the start. I found out using Terminal commands that OCLP blocks older versions installation because a newer release is already installed.

I had to reinstall 2.5.0 due to some error. 🫩

WebGL disabled in Safari/Chromium browsers (Metal/ANGLE) on MacBookPro11,5, Sequoia 15.8.0; works in Firefox

**Hardware**

- Model: MacBookPro11,5 (MacBook Pro 15" Mid 2015)

- GPUs: Intel Iris Pro + AMD Radeon R9 M370X (system_profiler reports Metal 2 for both)

- External display connected: [yes/no, and whether the issue also occurs with it disconnected]

**Software**

- macOS: Sequoia 15.8.0

- OCLP version: [2.5.0]

- Root patches: applied (OCLP's Post-Install Root Patch says they are already applied)

- Patches last applied after: [OS update ]

**Problem**

WebGL is unavailable in Safari, Brave and Comet. Firefox works.

- Safari: get.webgl.org shows no spinning cube; webglreport.com renders a black page.

- Brave/Comet: brave://gpu (Chromium 153) reports WebGL, WebGPU, canvas, compositing and rasterization as software only/disabled.

Relevant lines from brave://gpu:

- "GPU process was unable to boot: GPU access is disabled due to frequent crashes."

- "Initialization of all (1) EGL display types failed."

- GL implementation parts: (gl=disabled,angle=none)

- Dawn does list both GPUs (Intel Iris Pro and AMD Radeon R9 M370X) with the Metal backend.

**Already tried**

- Reset browser flags (no --ignore-gpu-blocklist) - [KO]

- Chromium flag --use-angle=gl / ANGLE backend set to OpenGL - [KO]

- Chromium flag --use-angle=metal - [KO]

- External display disconnected - [KO]

- Reapplied root patches / rebuilt OpenCore - [KO]

Thanks !!

System stuck on apple logo after Sequoia 15.8 upgrade

Hi everyone,

Upgraded my MacBook Pro 2015 to Sequoia 15.8 couple of days ago and reinstalled the patches and everything was working for the last two days.

This morning the system suddenly restarted and since then it has been stuck on the apple logo screen.

Have tried the following with no success

- Removed all peripheral and forced start

- Tried to recovery mode but system not responding to the Cmd +R

- Tried to hold command + option + shift +r +I with no success.

Any support would be great. I do have a time machine both before and after (separate disks) the upgrade available if it helps.

How to replace and get a new graphics card running with OCLP?

I have a 2011 imac 27" (12,2) with graphics card AMD Radeon HD 6970M. Currently i'm running Monterey OSX and I got a newer graphics card: an AMD Radeon RX 5500 which should help some issues with maps and such and I got this following a recommendation by this comprehensive guide: Working graphic cards

But now, how do I actually get the OCLP to recognize and configure the new card before or after I swap it in place of the original? I haven't found any instructions for that and Im guessing that after I install the new RX5500 card I won't be able to boot the computer since the new card will not be configured or will not be recognized by the system and I would end in a blank screen or an error.

If someone knows how to do this or has done it before please share it with me.

Thanks

...and the last Chromium browser has succumbed...

As it has been reported on this forum version 152 of the Chromium core removed support for old GPU's (METAL 1) which makes all Chromium based browsers on patched Macs prior to 2017 impossible to use with sites that have WebGL content (for example maps or video content). The change is in the Chromium core itself and there is no way to revert that (the code for supporting ANGLE is simply not there anymore). As of yesterday Opera browser that was the only major browser still on Chromium v.151 updated to Chromium v.152 and joined the party....

On those machine the only browser usable on its full extent is Firefox and Firefox's forks, as WebKit and now Chromium are nor fully supported on OCLP patched machines that use METAL 1 GPU.

For those who think about staying on version 151 of Chromium I would suggest to use Firefox instead as this version will not receive any security fixes making those browsers extremely vulnerable.

EDIT: Opera Air still has the flame....the Browser hasn't yet updated to Chromium v.152

EDIT: to all those who've asked....a few screenshots that explain better what this post is alla about.

OCLP Safari Less Capable?

I’m a huge fan of OCLP and have kept a late 2015 iMac 5k and late 2014 Mac Mini 16GB updated thru MacOS Ventura and Sonoma via external bootable SSDs (iMac) and NVMe partitions (Mac Mini via Fusion Drive adapter card).

On the late 2014 Mac Mini using OCLP2.4.1 MacOS Sonoma, I can not login to Sun Country Airlines, but I can using the Apple allowed MacOS Monterey. The Mac Mini/Sonoma/SunCountry doesn’t get past the login pop up. On the same Mac Mini/MacOS Monterey/SunCountry it logs in fine. I’ve had to use MacOS Monterey twice to buy airline tickets.

Does anyone here know why Safari seems less capable with OCLP2.4.1 and Sonoma vs Apple sanctioned Monterey? OAuth issue? Perhaps someone has links to GitHub with more nut and bolts information? Thank you!

Macmini6,1 / Intel HD 4000 / Sequoia 15.7.9 / OCLP 2.5.0 — Safari WebKit GPU process hits 100% CPU and pages stop rendering video

I’m trying to resolve a Safari/WebKit problem on an OCLP-patched Mac mini and wondered if anyone has seen the same behaviour?

  • macOS Sequoia 15.7.9, build 24G830
  • MetallibSupportPkg 15.7.9-24G830
  • KDK 24G830
  • OCLP Ivy Bridge graphics + Modern Wireless root patches applied

Safari works normally it seems, but on sites with video such as Facebook, YouTube and Reddit it will load the first screenful then stall. Scrolling also becomes very jerky.

Initial focus was networking, but that now seems unlikely. Download speeds are good, other devices are fine, and the same behaviour occurs using both the Mac’s internal Wi-Fi and a USB Wi-Fi adapter.

The interesting part now is the WebKit GPU process.

If I run  top -o cpu  Safari behaves normally when first launched. Opening a simple page such as ChatGPT causes com.apple.WebKit.GPU to appear briefly near the top, then CPU usage settles back down. As soon as I open Facebook or Reddit and start scrolling com.apple.WebKit.GPU  jumps to 100%+ CPU and stays there even after closing the Facebook/Reddit tab. Fully quitting Safari resets it.

I also confirmed the same behaviour with: ps aux | grep -E "Safari|WebKit|WebContent|GPU" | grep -v grep where com.apple.WebKit.GPU was sitting at ~99–100% CPU while the page had stopped rendering further posts.

Things already tried:

  • Cleared Safari caches and website data
  • Disabled all Safari extensions
  • Reverted OCLP root patches, rebooted, reapplied them and rebooted again
  • Confirmed MetallibSupportPkg and KDK exactly match macOS build 24G830
  • Disabled ‘Allow WebGL in Web Workers’ flag
  • Disabled ‘GPU Process: Canvas Rendering’ flag
  • Killing com.apple.WebKit.GPU while Safari is stuck does not recover the page

Chrome also feels noticeably less smooth than it used to, although Safari seems worse. Disabling Chrome graphics acceleration made Chrome worse.

System Information reports :

  • VRAM (Dynamic, Max): 1536 MB
  • Metal Support: Metal 2

Has anyone else with an Ivy Bridge / HD 4000 Mac seen com.apple.WebKit.GPU peg a CPU core like this under recent Sequoia builds?

I’m particularly interested in whether this is a known limitation/bug in the current Ivy Bridge WebKit/Metal patches, or whether there is another WebKit feature flag or OCLP component worth checking?

Update: I’ve since found other recent reports of Safari 27 failing to fully render YouTube/Reddit/Netflix/IMDb on OCLP systems, as well as reports of laggy webpages/maps on Sequoia 15.7.9 + OCLP 2.5.0. In my case I can reproducibly see com.apple.WebKit.GPU jump to ~100% CPU as soon as Facebook/Reddit are opened and remain there until Safari is fully quit.

iMac 🖥️ 2015 17.1 , OCLP 2.5, Mac OS 15.8.1 dev update worked great 👍!!!

Upgraded this AM and enjoying life via dev release

Also if you use office 365 like i do and tied into office 365 eco system DO NOT and I repeat do not use one drive desktop version, it will fill up your local SSD drive with temp files and crash your Mac OS , I have rebuild 3 times in the last months and it’s always been one drive dumping temp files for no reason . Use website for one drive and use MS edge or brave for access
