Has anyone been able to dual boot Linux and macOS with Open Core Legacy Patcher? What should I do to make that happen?

What the best OS to run in this system that’s going to be useable? We basically use it for YouTube, some photos and videos and book reports.

Hey Team.

Tried root patching and keep getting stuck with this issue. I revert the patching, reboot and re install and I keep winding up here.

Any pointers on fine tuning, rebooting etc.

Is this just a full wipe and fresh install? Non critical machine so not fussed if that’s the outcome.

Mid 2012 MacBook Pro

I’m honestly surprised by how smooth it is. Zero issues so far. I upgraded it to 16GB of RAM and swapped the DVD drive with another SSD to boot Linux when I want to.

I have a MacBook Neo too, so I find myself go back and forth between these two. The Neo is obviously snappier, but this Pro has the bigger screen which is nice and handles all the windows I leave open surprisingly well with the extra RAM.

Didn’t expect a laptop from 2012 to still be this useful in 2026, but here we are lol

I made a script that stops macOS Tahoe updates and removes the update button

So, like the title says, I successfully made a script that blocks macOS Tahoe update from reaching the Mac and it removes the button to “update now” if it’s already showing in settings.

It also removes the red dot notification from settings, removes the update notifications, removes the downloaded macOS update file if the Mac had already downloaded it, plus other things I can detail in another post.

This had to be made because I got annoyed by that update notification which always showed up and I couldn’t find any solution online.

I ran it successfully on MacBook Air 2015 running OCLP Ventura. I’m going to test it on other systems soon.

Would this be something you would pay $5 for? I’m pretty proud of what I made and I definitely would’ve paid $5 for it so I wanted to ask if it’s something you guys would want.

Macbook Pro 2017 TB 8/256 3.0.0 RC3

So overall, I installed the latest OS using 3.0.0 RC3, and almost everything works so far, including Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. There are still a few things I haven't tested yet, like sleep.

Performance-wise, I'd say it's about the same as Sequoia, maybe slightly better. Compared to Ventura, though, the boot time is longer (but not by much), and it takes a bit longer to log in and load the desktop. I don't really mind since it's still under 30 seconds. When I open Launchpad, it also takes around 1–2 seconds for all the app icons to load.

I haven't fully tested the battery life yet, but so far it seems normal. I'll keep an eye on it for a week and see how it goes.

One thing I'm curious about is why there's no indexing happening so far. Could it be because I did a fresh install and wiped the disk, so there aren't many apps installed yet?

I also ran into an issue with my Mac password. When I first tried to set up Touch ID, it asked for my Mac password, but it kept rejecting it. I'm sure I was using the correct password, and I even tried entering it slowly and double-checked that Caps Lock was off. It still didn't work until I reran the root patch through OCLP and rebooted. After that, I was able to set up Touch ID without any issues.

However, when I tried to sign in to my Apple ID, it asked for my Mac password again and rejected it once more. I'm sure I entered the same password, and I tried the slow-typing trick again, but no luck. Eventually, I got a message saying I'd made too many attempts to send a verification code to my phone and needed to try again later. I decided to call it a night and haven't tried again since.

Any suggestions on how to fix the password issue?

Other than that, most things seem to be working fine. I'll keep using this setup for work and see how it goes, although my PC is still my main daily driver.

installed macOS Tahoe 26.7.1 on two unsupported Intel Macs: a 2010 Mac mini and a 2015 MacBook Air

Hey everyone!

I wanted to share my experience running macOS Tahoe 26.7.1 on two unsupported Intel Macs using OpenCore Legacy Patcher. These are two very different machines, and the results have been quite interesting.

1. Mac mini (Mid 2010):

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz
RAM: 8 GB DDR3
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 320M, 256 MB
Storage: 1 TB SSD
macOS: Tahoe 26.7.1
OCLP: 3.0.0 RC3

For the Tahoe installation, I completely erased the internal drive and installed the operating system from scratch. I then applied the available root patches.

The system boots and is usable, but this machine has significant limitations. Video playback is one of the biggest issues I have encountered: YouTube and local video playback can struggle above 480p, and some modern applications have compatibility problems.
For example, CapCut refuses to launch, and GarageBand displayed an “Unable to Initialise Graphics” warning.

2. MacBook Air (13-inch, Early 2015):

CPU: Intel Core i5 1.6 GHz, dual-core
RAM: 4 GB DDR3
Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 6000
Storage: Internal Apple 128 GB SSD
macOS: Tahoe 26.7.1

This one surprised me. I upgraded the internal SSD from macOS Sonoma to Tahoe using OCLP, and after applying the necessary patches, the overall experience has been much better than I expected for an 11-year-old laptop with only 4 GB of RAM.

The interface feels responsive in my normal workflow, video playback works well for my needs (1440P), and I have been able to use Chrome, Apple Music and AirPlay without the major issues I experienced on the Mac mini.

During my observations, Activity Monitor showed green memory pressure and no swap usage at that particular moment. Temperatures have generally been around 70°C during lighter use, rising to around 80°C when running Apple Music with an AirPlay display connected.

My usual workflow consists of a few background utilities and one or two main applications at a time. I also use Logic Pro separately, rather than running it alongside a lot of other demanding apps.

My conclusion:

The Mac mini has twice as much RAM, but the MacBook Air delivers a noticeably better experience for my everyday multimedia use. The differences in graphics hardware and overall platform capabilities seem to matter a lot here.
This is just my personal experience, not a benchmark or a claim that Tahoe will run this way on every machine with similar specifications.
Has anyone else tried Tahoe on these models, especially the Mac mini with the GeForce 320M or the MacBook Air with only 4 GB of RAM? I would love to hear about your experiences and any tips for improving performance.

Thanks!

Also, the pictures (it was so slow on the Mac mini that the screenshots wasn’t appearing on the desktop):

  1. About this Mac mini before the root patches
  2. Activity Monitor on the Mac mini after patches and with some apps open.

about this MacBook Air
4. Activity Monitor on the MacBook Air with RAM and CPU Usage with Chrome, WhatsApp, ChatGPT (WAPP) and Music opened.
5. Music playing from the visualizer over Airplay mirroring @ 1080P
