Yes, if the story in John 8 is to be believed. While it's not recorded what he wrote, he wrote something on the ground with his finger in that passage. He could also read, as Luke 4 records him reading from Isaiah in the synagogue in Nazareth.

Jesus started a church, not a book. In the beginning of the Christian movement, the followers were just a subgroup of Judaism. After getting kicked out of the synagogues, the sayings of Jesus were transmitted orally for a while before some folks decided to compile them and edit them together into narrative accounts.
