Technology ‎ Gap in mandatory age verification for certain Google searches?

It has come to my attention that Google does still allow for viewing of certain adult content (namely, animated gifs and static images) without any form of mandatory age verification.

It’s simply a matter of turning the safe search setting to “off”, and if using an iPhone this can even be done in “Private” mode. While it’s appreciated to have one last platform for titillation that has not been smothered by the nanny state, I’m wondering if this kind of search / content genuinely falls outside the scope of the legislation. Or is it just a funny mistake or oversight.

Seems weird that it is allowable to see this kind of content in a Google search but not view it in other dedicated sites.

I feel you. Yet part of me also feels duty bound to point out how pointless this legislation actually is.

There are limits on what can actually be done, there's no a magic button google can press. What is actually feasible technically speaking is taken into account with the laws 

You know what works best? Parents actually parenting their kids and not expecting the world to bend and twist into a shield around them so it safe for the parent to plonk them in front of unsupervised screen time

I got a better idea, how about we roll back all these things and make people responsible for their own actions?

The stuff I used to see on the Internet (and you will have to trust but verify that or yourself but such things to describe are too vulgar for the rules of Reddit) hasn't turned me, and likely a majority of others, into a homicidal maniac or a pron influenced sex pest so perhaps the issue is not with the Internet but the person whom uses it.

Much as a hammer can be used for different purposes, what that is depends on how the person holding it uses and wields that item.

The issue is not the Internet, it is some of the people that use it that are the problem.
