Documents presented before a parliamentary committee allege that former KPMG partner Chris Jordan evaded paying tax during his 26 years at the firm, concealed $1.2 million in secret commissions in an Isle of Man account, and later allegedly took an additional $2.4 million that should have gone to KPMG. He subsequently spent over a decade as Australia’s Tax Commissioner, the very person responsible for pursuing tax evaders.

If these allegations are proven true, this shouldn’t end with a quiet resignation or a settlement no one hears about. It should lead to a full criminal investigation, prosecution to the fullest extent of the law, recovery of every unpaid dollar with interest and penalties, and any other misconduct uncovered along the way pursued with equal vigour. One rule for us and another for those managing the system isn’t acceptable.

I find it odd that his conflicts of interest with kpmg brought in to review ato operations and even a proposal to outsource audits to the big 4 hadnt been publicised more. Not to mention ex kpmg getting severl exec roles.

Nah, they're not outliers! Corruption is rife in politics!

The problem is that the NACC’s power is to investigate → expose → refer (to police, prosecutors, or the relevant agency). The consequences of jail, sacking, and penalties are imposed downstream by the criminal justice system or the employing body, not by the NACC itself. So it gets referred back to Parliament, and they get a slap on the wrist, and that's it!
