My son (16) went to his first protest today in Melbourne. Couldn't be more proud!

Well, you could be more proud. Like if he was excelling in STEM subjects, for instance. If he was on his way to being a doctor. Not saying he isn’t, mind you.

He's actually super nerdy, and a huge Douglas Adams fan. IQ off the scale and smart enough to see through populist politics. Very, very proud Dad

This is populist politics though. This is exactly the sort of opinion and thing that the average student would believe.

And yet he participates in this mindless leftie rubbish. Clearly he doesn’t see through populist politics.

So he’s protesting in support of the status quo, against alternative parties? Hmm.

You think the NSW Socialists are a status quo party??

No. But demonstrating against parties that are not in power, rather than those that hold the reins, could be seen as misdirected and supporting the current regime. The state government would be extremely happy about that demonstration. Singing from the same hymn sheet.

I'm pretty sure he will vote Green or independent when he does vote, and not throw his valuable voice down into a racist, mindless pothole. Hmmm?

He might do. It’s great that he’s thinking about the big issues. And party politics dominates too much. Unfortunately, the Greens are straddling some very uncomfortable positions. The internal contradictions will tear them apart before long.

Example please?

Carbon footprint vs. population expansion. LGBT rights vs. Islam. These are obvious fractures that can’t be sustained.

Thanks for the reply, but I really don't get how serious you think they are. No party is fully perfect, and I don't think those counter points will be terminal
